As of this evening, our animal control officer has personally decided to step down from their role for their mental health. We would like to thank all those who have helped us in the past few years in finding new homes for all the animals. We'd also like to thank those who have donated and help the program become what it has.

DOG TAGS

All dogs in the town of moosonee require a dog tag. One reason a dog tag is important is identification.

If a dog is picked up and has a tag, the animal control officer can then pull up the records and find out where it lives and bring it home instead of the pound.

2026 tags are $35 each

*NEW*
Life Time Tags

If your dog is neutered/Spayed then are eligible for a Life time tag. In order to receive this tag you must provide vet records of the neuter/spay. It's then a one time payment of $50 per tag, this tag will be good for the duration of the dogs life.

To purchase a tag please go to the town office or see the animal control officer.

We'd like to thank a few of the wonderful members of our community who had a table at the flea market this past weekend. The proceeds from their bake sale were donated to the pound.

The money raised will go to helping with vet care for some of the dogs in our care, along with getting more supplies that we need.

Thank you to Precious Paws Rescue and all those who donated through them.

The dogs love their new beds and the toys. Some toys only lasted 5min but the dogs loved those 5 min.

We always appreciate the kind generosity of those who donate to the moosonee pound. Some dogs have been with us for long periods and they always love their treats and a new toy.

With the recent wolf sightings in the community, residents are understandably concerned about safety at this time. While human-wolf interactions are rare, they may sometimes enter our communities in search of food. Keep yourself, your family, and your pets safe by taking the following precautions.

Stay Together
If possible, go with others when venturing outside of the community for walks, snowmobile rides, etc.

Supervise Children
Keep children in sight and nearby when playing outdoors. Teach children about wolf safety.

Clean Up Food and Garbage
Keep yards clear of food and make sure all garbage is kept neatly in garbage bins

Keep Dogs Secure
Dogs are best kept inside or monitored when outside. Do not let dogs roam freely.

REPORT WOLF SIGHTINGS TO THE POLICE

If you spot wolves in the community, contact the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service at 705-658-4886.

If You Encounter a Wolf
Wolves will avoid people most of the time. However, should you find yourself face to face with a wolf, it is important to remember not to run, as this can trigger a chase response in the wolf. Instead, maintain eye contact as you back away slowly. Raising your arms and shouting may help to scare the wolf off. If you have bear spray, be prepared to use it.

Following these tips will help keep you safe until the wolves move on from our community.

Wolves have been spotted around the island, they could come to moose side. Please keep your pets inside, not loose or tied. Keep them safe indoors.

If you see a wolf, call OPP or animal control. Let's keep ourselves, family and pets safe!

FORT ALBANY, HERE WE COME!

[February 2026 SPAY AND NEUTER CLINIC]

Precious Paws Rescue & North of 50 Veterinary Remote Mobile are headed to Fort Albany First Nation for our annual Spay/Neuter Clinic! As part of our on-going collaboration with Fort Albany First Nation, we are returning to offer essential dog and cat services to ensure their community is safe, happy and healthy!

We will be sharing more about how our rescue community can support access to veterinary care in remote communities just like Fort Albany.
