We’re happy to support community safety by sharing opportunities like this. Please note that Naloxone training is provided by John Howard society of Saskatchewan. MJCOPA is not involved in delivering or supervising the training.

Moose Jaw Citizens on Patrol Association (MJCOPA), is seeking new volunteers to help keep our communities safe.

The successful program has been running for decades in many cities Canada-wide.

MJCOPA is part of the provincial SK Citizens On Patrol Assoc. (SCOPA).

The Citizens on Patrol Program is a partnership between police and volunteers that helps enhance safety to homes, properties and communities.

COPA volunteers are trained to be the eyes and ears of their communities.

Volunteers contribute a minimum of four volunteer hours each month.

COPA members will work in teams of two and make observations and take notes of areas visited throughout their communities.

Should suspicious or unlawful activity be observed, MJPS or RCMP dispatch is contacted and details of the suspicious or unlawful activity is reported for appropriate police response.

In order to become a COPA volunteer, you must;

◇Be at least 18 years of age

◇Complete an interview.

◇Pass the security screening.

MJCOPA is seeking both board members and volunteers.

If you are interested send a message or post a reply of "interested" and we will be in contact soon.

MJ COPA offers several community benefits:

# # Enhanced Community Safety

1. Extra surveillance: Citizen patrols act as additional "eyes and ears" for local law enforcement, increasing overall community vigilance.

2. Crime deterrence: The visible presence of patrol groups can discourage criminal activity in neighborhoods.

3. Improved response times: Patrollers can quickly report suspicious activities, potentially leading to faster police intervention[2].

# # Strengthened Community Bonds

1. Increased community engagement: Patrol programs encourage residents to take an active role in maintaining their neighborhood's safety.

2. Improved police-community relations: Regular interaction between citizens and law enforcement fosters trust and cooperation.

3. Enhanced quality of life: As crime rates potentially decrease, residents may feel safer and more connected to their community.

# # Support for Law Enforcement

1. Resource optimization: Citizen patrols can help police allocate their resources more efficiently by handling non-emergency surveillance.

2. Valuable local insights: Patrollers provide police with important information about neighborhood-specific issues and concerns.

# # Personal and Social Benefits

1. Skill development: Volunteers gain valuable skills in observation, communication, and teamwork.

2. Sense of purpose: Participating in community safety efforts can provide a sense of accomplishment and civic pride.

3. Networking opportunities: Patrol groups allow residents to connect with like-minded individuals in their community.

# # Cost-Effective Crime Prevention

1. Low-cost initiative: Citizen patrol programs are typically volunteer-based, making them a cost-effective approach to enhancing community safety.

2. Potential reduction in crime-related costs: By deterring criminal activity, these programs may lead to reduced property damage and lower insurance rates for residents.

By implementing and promoting a citizens patrol group, communities can work towards creating a safer, more connected, and engaged neighborhood while supporting local law enforcement efforts.
