Heartland Hospice Moose Jaw

Heartland Hospice Moose Jaw This was the dream of Arlene Kolosky and we trust it is a hope of yours as well. A hospice would support those who are unable to or do not wish to die at home.

A registered charity fundraising to create an end-of-life haven in Moose Jaw where individuals and their families are supported by a circle of compassionate care. Knowing the invaluable service and impact hospices have had elsewhere, many citizens of our district have dreamed that some day we would have such a facility right here in our own community. Hospice care helps families face life limiting

illness with dignity and comfort surrounded by a circle of support, its focus being to provide care to the dying in their location of choice. Hospice care's approach is holistic, helping those who require short term admission to bring symptoms under control in a peaceful, caring, and loving environment.

πŸ’™ Thank You Thursday πŸ’™

This Thank You Thursday goes out to everyone who helped make Plant Bingo possible last week! We had an incredible time, and it wouldn't have been possible without the support of our amazing community.

A special thank you to Just A Girl In Her Garden for providing the venue, donating prizes, and generously contributing 10% of all sales from each night to Heartland Hospice.

Thank you to Andrew Marsh, our fantastic Bingo caller, for keeping the games fun and entertaining throughout the event.

We would also like to thank Kona Ice of Moose Jaw & Regina for joining us each night with their delicious frozen treats, Golden Press Bar for their amazing mocktails and generous donation of their proceeds, and I'm Walkin Here Food Co for providing food during the first two days of the event.

Finally, thank you to everyone who attended, donated, and supported Plant Bingo.
We are so grateful for each and every one of you! πŸ’™πŸŒΏπŸŽ‰

Did you know that Heartland Hospice offers the Jones My Wish Program?

The Jones My Wish Program helps create meaningful moments for palliative care patients and their families in Moose Jaw. Sponsored by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Services and supported by generous community partners, the program is designed to enhance the end-of-life experience through special activities and opportunities for connection.

Wishes are intended to be personal, simple, and low-cost, but rich in meaning for patients, families, and those who care for them. Whether it's reconnecting with a loved one, revisiting a cherished place, or creating a lasting memory, the goal is to help make a meaningful wish come true.

A Heartland Hospice representative works closely with patients, families, and care providers to coordinate and fulfill wishes to the best of their ability.

Because sometimes the smallest wishes create the most treasured memories. πŸ’™

πŸ’œ Ten Things to Know About Grief

Grief is an important part of the palliative care journey. It can begin before a loved one dies and continue long after their passing. Understanding grief can help us support ourselves and others through one of life's most challenging experiences.

1. Loss affects every part of life. Grief can impact your emotions, relationships, routines, and sense of purpose.
2. Grief is a natural response to loss. It is a normal reaction to losing someone or something important to you.
3. Everyone grieves differently. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and each person's journey is unique.
4. Children grieve too. Honest, age-appropriate conversations can help children understand loss and express their feelings.
5. Support matters. Family, friends, support groups, and community resources can provide comfort during difficult times.
6. Grief affects the body and mind. Changes in sleep, appetite, energy levels, and concentration are common experiences.
7. There is no timeline for grief. Healing happens at different rates, and feelings of grief may come and go over time.
8. Special dates can be difficult. Holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, and other meaningful occasions may bring renewed feelings of loss.
9. Finding meaning takes time. Many people discover ways to honour and remember their loved ones while moving forward with life.
10. It is okay to ask for help. Professional support is available if grief feels overwhelming or begins to interfere with daily life.

At Heartland Hospice, we understand that grief is a deeply personal journey. Whether you are caring for a loved one, experiencing a loss, or supporting someone who is grieving, compassionate support can make a meaningful difference. πŸ’œ

If you've never attended an AGM before, don't worry! Some of the language and processes can sound a little formal, but we'll guide everyone through the meeting. No special knowledge is needed, just bring your interest in supporting Heartland Hospice and our community.
