✨ Girls Week at Youth Conservation Camp! ✨

What a week! 💚 From paddling Hannin Creek and trying their hand at archery, fly fishing, trapping, fire and knife skills, to learning about conservation and building new friendships — these girls packed a whole lot of adventure into one week!

Watching them learn, challenge themselves, get a little muddy and grow in confidence is exactly what Youth Conservation Camp is all about. 🏕️🌲

A HUGE thank you to all of our incredible guest speakers and instructors who shared their time, knowledge and passion with our campers. And thank you to the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation branches who sponsored these girls to attend camp at Hannin Creek. Your support makes experiences like this possible. 💚

Zebra mussels have now been confirmed in Lake of the Prairies, a shared waterbody between Saskatchewan and Manitoba. This serves as an important reminder that we all have a role to play in preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species to our lakes and rivers.

Whether you're heading out with a boat, kayak, canoe, paddleboard or other watercraft, always remember to Clean, Drain and Dry your equipment before moving to another waterbody. If you see an open watercraft inspection station, you are required by law to stop and have your watercraft inspected.

Prevention is our best defence against aquatic invasive species. Please take a moment to review the Ministry of Environment's information below to learn how you can help protect Saskatchewan's waters, identify invasive species, and report any suspected sightings. Every boater and paddler can make a difference. 🎣🏄‍♀️🚣

Understanding and following Clean, Drain and Dry procedures prevents the unintentional spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS).

The ministry recently confirmed the presence of zebra mussels in Lake of the Prairies, a shared waterbody between the provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The presence of these invasive mussels highlights the importance of early detection and prevention efforts to limit the spread of AIS.

AIS can be unintentionally transported between waterbodies on boats, trailers and equipment. You can prevent the spread of AIS by:
• Following the Clean, Drain and Dry guidelines.
• Stopping at watercraft inspection stations and pulling drain plugs prior to transporting any watercraft.
• Learning what AIS look like and reporting potential sightings to [email protected].

If you are transporting a watercraft, including boats, jet skis, kayaks, canoes or paddleboards, and see an open inspection station, you must stop - it’s the law.

⛳ 20 Years of Driving Conservation Forward! 🌿

What an incredible day at the 20th Annual Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation Habitat Trust Golf Tournament hosted on June 17th!

A huge thank you to the 114 golfers, our amazing sponsors, generous prize donors, and dedicated volunteers who joined us at the Humboldt Golf Club to celebrate this special milestone. Thanks to your support, we raised more than $12,000 for the Habitat Trust Fund, helping protect and conserve critical wildlife habitat across Saskatchewan for generations to come.

The tournament was filled with great golf, delicious food, plenty of laughs, and the outstanding camaraderie that has made this event a favourite for the past two decades. It's always inspiring to see so many people come together in support of conservation.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our 20th anniversary tournament such a success. We couldn't do it without you, and we can't wait to see you all again next year!

Zebra mussels have been confirmed in Lake of the Prairies, which is a shared waterbody between the provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. A joint response has been initiated with containment orders issued by both provinces to address the immediate threat.

Containment orders for Saskatchewan require all watercraft and equipment that come in contact with the Assiniboine River or Lake of the Prairies from Highway 357 to the Manitoba border be decontaminated before being removed from Lake of the Prairies and used elsewhere. Decontamination will be completed on the Saskatchewan side by trained officers within the ministry’s AIS program stationed near Lake of the Prairies. If you plan to move your watercraft or equipment from the Saskatchewan containment area, contact us to schedule a decontamination at [email protected].

Fishing on weekends is lots of good fun. So, go fish for a fish, you could catch a big one! No licence you say? You can still fish, you see! For this weekend’s the weekend that fishing is free!

From July 11-12, residents and visitors can fish in any Saskatchewan waterbody open to sport fishing, no licence required. All other fishing regulations still apply, including possession limits. Free fishing weekend does not apply within national parks.

🌿 Spring WOW 2026 is officially in the books! 🌿

Another incredible Women’s Outdoor Weekend (WOW) has come to a close, and what a weekend it was!

36 women from across Saskatchewan and Alberta gathered at Hannin Creek to celebrate over 30 years of the WOW program and spend three days learning, laughing, and enjoying everything the outdoors has to offer.

Participants stepped outside their comfort zones and embraced a wide variety of activities, including nature journaling, archery, yoga, orienteering, shelter building, knife skills, fire building, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and filleting. Whether they arrived with years of outdoor experience or were trying many of these activities for the very first time, everyone brought an adventurous spirit and a willingness to learn.

Of course, some of the best memories were made around the supper table, the campfire, and during the many conversations and laughs shared throughout the weekend. New friendships were formed, old friendships were strengthened, and plenty of stories were exchanged.

The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the participants who joined us this year and helped make the weekend such a success. Thank you also to our outstanding instructors for sharing your knowledge, encouragement, and passion for the outdoors: Kristen and Alicia from Sage Creek Prairie School, Rachel Ish from Saskatchewan Orienteering Association, the local Conservation Officers, Courtney Devins, Jenna Oesch, Tanis Crawford, and Merrissa Karmark. A special thank you goes to Rose and Pam, who kept everyone exceptionally well fed and looked after all weekend long. Their meals and hospitality are always a highlight of the WOW experience!

For decades, WOW has empowered women to gain confidence, develop new skills, and discover a deeper connection with the natural world. Seeing the friendships, laughter, and enthusiasm throughout the weekend reminds us why WOW continues to be one of the SWF's most cherished programs.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of the WOW family over the past 30 years. We can't wait to do it all again this fall!

🎨🐟 Last week, we announced the winners of the 2026 Fish Artwork Contest… now it’s time to showcase even more of the incredible artwork!

This year’s contest received 439 entries from talented young artists across Saskatchewan. Below are the Top 3 entries from Grades 4, 5, and 6, and WOW, the creativity and detail in these pieces are absolutely amazing! 🎣👏
