L'Associazione Cicalese Di Montreal è stata fondata grazie all'iniziativa di alcuni immigranti di Cicala, spinti da un grande sentimento di attaccamento.

Cicala, è un comune italiano di 993 abitanti, si trova in provincia di Catanzaro in Calabria, ed è situato ai piedi della Sila Piccola. Nonostante i suoi ormai pochissimi abitanti, questo comune si distingue tra gli altri per l’amore e l’accoglienza della sua gente. L'Associazione Cicalese Di Montreal è stata fondata nel 1979 grazie all'iniziativa di alcuni immigranti di Cicala, spinti da un grande sentimento di attaccamento alla loro terra di origine, cercando di mantenere viva la grande comunità cicalese che in quegli anni in massa era partita alla volta di Montreal in cerca di un futuro migliore per loro e per i loro discendenti. Nell’anno della sua fondazione, l’associazione dei cicalesi di Montreal, con lo scopo di creare un luogo di ritrovo nel quale svolgere tutte le sue attività, grazie all’impegno profuso da tutti i suoi soci, ha acquistato un terreno a Saint-Remi, il quale ha permesso di mantenere alto lo spirito e le tradizioni di Cicala. Adesso la maggior parte dei soci dell’associazione è formata da persone anziane, e purtroppo molti di loro, sono venuti a mancare. Per questo motivo, adesso la responsabilità e l’impegno di riuscire a mantenere vivo ciò che i nostri nonni hanno costruito, è nostro, di tutti quei cicalesi di 2 e 3 generazione, e nella città di Montreal siamo davvero in tanti. Chiediamo quindi a chiunque si sente fiero di essere italiano e cicalese, di riuscire ad impegnarsi nei limiti delle proprie possibilità affinché tutto ciò che i soci fondatori hanno creato, non si vada perdendo. Consapevoli del fatto che i tempi in cui agiamo oggi sono totalmente differenti da quelli in cui i nostri genitori e nonni hanno creato tutto questo, ci impegneremo con tutte le nostre forze a mantenere il programma che fino ad oggi ha tenuto legati tutti i soci dell’associazione.

🎶 Frank Moyo is coming to Montréal, and you’re invited! 🇮🇹

On Sunday, November 8, the Associazione Cicalese di Montreal, with the generous support of Casa d’Italia, invites you to a special afternoon of music and storytelling for the whole family!

A singer-songwriter, educator and children’s book author, Frank draws inspiration from his Italian roots and his close relationship with his grandparents, sharing his love of language, music and family traditions with a new generation.

Join us as Frank performs his songs, reads from his books Nonno and Nonna, and hosts a meet & greet and book signing afterward.

Bring your children, your parents and, of course, your nonni! Whether you grew up with Italian traditions or are discovering them for the first time, everyone is welcome. ❤️

There’s something special about growing up with nonni. ❤️ The Sunday lunches that lasted all afternoon, the stories we’ve heard a hundred times, the recipes made without ever measuring a thing. Whether they’re still sitting around the table with us or we hold them close in our memories, our nonni have given us so much of who we are.

And that’s something worth celebrating!

On November 8, we’re welcoming Frank Moyo to Montreal for a special afternoon of music, storytelling and making new memories together. Bring the whole family as we celebrate our Italian heritage and share it with families from across Montreal!

Get to know Frank!

Frank Moyo is a teacher, singer-songwriter, and children’s book author.

With a background in Italian and Archaeology from the University of Toronto, Frank pursued a career in education, becoming an elementary school music teacher. Growing up surrounded by all four of his grandparents—who immigrated from Cosenza, Calabria—Frank was immersed in the richness of Italian culture from an early age. Whether it was through the aroma of homemade meals, the melodies of traditional folk songs, or the stories passed down through generations, his heritage became a cornerstone of his identity.

Now, as a music teacher, Frank shares his love for Italian culture through song, blending language, history, and music to create an engaging and meaningful experience for his students. His passion for storytelling extends beyond the classroom, leading him to publish his first children’s book—a heartfelt tribute to family, tradition, and the enduring bond between grandparents and grandchildren.

Through his work as both an educator and artist, Frank continues his mission to celebrate culture, family, and the timeless connections that shape who we are.

Rain was in the forecast, but luckily the weather held out for us! ☀️🌽

Our annual Ferragosto celebration and Corn Roast was a wonderful day filled with good food, laughter, friendship, and plenty of fun! Seeing our children enjoying these traditions with their families is a beautiful reminder that they are the future of our community, and the traditions we cherish today will live on through them.

A special thank you to Carmela Folino for generously purchasing the pasta, and to Frutta Si for providing the delicious corn that made our corn roast possible.

Thank you to everyone who came out, helped, cooked, shared, laughed, and made the day so special. It’s days like these that remind us what makes our community so strong. 🇮🇹❤️

What a beautiful day of faith, tradition, and community. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and new friends come together to celebrate. Thank you again to everyone who joined us and helped make this year's celebration so special.

As our first San Giacomo celebration under President Stefania Montuoro's leadership, Sunday's feast was a wonderful reminder of what makes our community so special.
