We are excited to present our next artist, Tanveer Alam , a Toronto based Kathak dancer & teacher who through his Lec-dem will explore the rich history of Kathak and group choreography from the 20th century to the present. The presentation will feature a live demonstration of how ensemble choreography can be created with dancing bodies.

Introducing the 1st artist for this year's ARTASIA/ARTASIE 2026!!

We are honoured to present, Bharatanatyam artist and teacher, Seshakamal Iyengar who will present a unique lecture-demonstration exploring the intricate relationship between dance, music, rhythm, language, and choreography in the classical South Indian dance tradition of Bharatanatyam.

Accompanied by an ensemble of distinguished musicians—Smt. Divya V. Iyer (vocal), Chi. Amudan Sairam (violin), and Sri Sainan Kandiah (mridangam)—the presentation will also feature performances by his students K*m. Prisha Patel, K*m. Prachi Patel, and K*m. Aathy Sriranjarathan.

Accompagné d’un ensemble de musiciens distingués — Smt. Divya V. Iyer (chant), Chi. Amudan Sairam (violon) et Sri Sainan Kandiah (mridangam) — il sera également rejoint sur scène par ses élèves K*m. Prisha Patel, K*m. Prachi Patel et K*m. Aathy Sriranjarathan.

A special highlight of the event will be a spontaneous live choreography segment, where Seshakamal will create and interpret movement to an unfamiliar musical composition in real time, offering audiences a rare glimpse into the artistic and improvisational process of a Bharatanatyam choreographer.

Kabir Centre is excited to continue its journey towards fostering & promoting South Asian Cultural Arts through "ARTASIA" project.

We are extremely excited to introduce our wonderful lineup of artists for this year's session spread over the weekend of August.

The project featuring 6 sessions by well established artists from the field of Classical Arts aims to demystify ,explain & enhance the appreciation towards classical dance & music forms by laymen with little prior knowledge or wanting to enhance their knowledge.

We are happy to introduce 2 unique instruments this year such as the Kamancheh ( Iranian & Persian Classical Music) &
the Yangqin ( Chinese Classical Music)..So stay tuned!!!

This year the interactive sessions are scheduled over the weekend of 15th August & 16th August from 2pm to 5:30pm.

The Reception to mark the Inauguration, is scheduled for 15th August at 1pm at:

Le Centre Kabir est heureux de poursuivre son engagement envers la valorisation et la diffusion des arts culturels d’Asie du Sud à travers son projet « ARTASIE ». Nous avons le grand plaisir de dévoiler la magnifique programmation de cette nouvelle édition, qui se déploiera au mois d’août.

Composé de six séances animées par des artistes chevronnés, le projet vise à démystifier, expliquer et approfondir l’appréciation de la danse et de la musique classiques auprès d’un public curieux, qu’il soit novice ou désireux d’enrichir ses connaissances.

Cette année, nous sommes particulièrement ravis de présenter deux instruments d’exception : le kamancheh, emblématique des traditions musicales iraniennes et persanes, et le yangqin, instrument phare de la musique classique chinoise. Restez à l’écoute — de belles découvertes vous attendent.

Les séances interactives auront lieu les 15 et 16 août, de 14 h à 17 h 30.

Une invitation à voir l'un des maîtres les plus inspirants du sarod, au Palais Montcalm!

Dr. Pandit Ranajit Sengupta, sarodiste de renommée internationale, s’est imposé dès l’adolescence comme l’un des musiciens les plus accomplis de sa génération. Il est lauréat de nombreuses distinctions et s’est produit dans plus de trente pays, notamment aux États‑Unis, au Canada, en Europe, au Moyen‑Orient, en Afrique et dans les Caraïbes. Ranajit est également compositeur principal et chef invité du National Youth Orchestra for Indian Music en Angleterre.

Indranil Mallick, tablaïste d’une grande finesse issu de la gharana de Lucknow, a commencé sa formation à cinq ans auprès de son oncle Sri Montu Mallick, puis avec le Prof. Dhabol Bandyapadhaya et Sri Uttam Chakraborty. Il poursuit aujourd’hui son apprentissage auprès de Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri. Artiste de catégorie « A » à All India Radio, Kolkata, il se produit régulièrement à travers l’Inde et est titulaire d’une maîtrise en économie de la Rabindra Bharati University.

NEXTGEN MUSIC & DANCE DAYS ( 24/25 OCTOBER)..

Dear Artists,

Thank you for your interest and your response to the call for submissions for our Nexgen Multiarts Festival 2026. Considering the overwhelming response to this year's festival, and the very high calibre of submissions, it was extremely difficult to decide the final artists who will be presented and featured this year.

The finalists are in the process of being informed and will receive a notification no later than May 31, 2026,

If you do not receive a response please be assured that we would like to retain and review your submission for next year's Festival unless you instruct us otherwise.

We will share the final list online soon as we are working through a few logistical issues.

Based in Montréal, the Kabir Cultural Centre is a multidisciplinary arts organization dedicated to celebrating South Asian classical and contemporary arts while fostering dialogue with cultures from around the world. Under the leadership of General Manager TK (Raghu) Raghunathan, who has been involved since the Centre’s founding in 2002, the organization has grown from small community music gatherings into a vibrant cultural hub presenting concerts, dance, film, and literary programming.
