INTRODUCING 2026 CONCERT ARTIST: violinist Roman Fraser! 🎻

Born in Amsterdam and raised in Montreal, violinist Roman Fraser began his musical studies at the age of five and entered the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal at just nine years old, where he studied with Johanne Arel. He later continued his training at the Colburn School in Los Angeles with Martin Beaver and Clive Greensmith before completing his studies at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music under André Roy.

An accomplished chamber musician, Roman was a prizewinner of the McGill Chamber Music Competition in both 2015 and 2016. As first violinist of the Milton String Quartet, he received the Gold Medal and Grand Prize at the 2017 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.

The quartet’s Fischoff Gold Medal Tour brought them to concert stages across Italy and the American Midwest. They also served as Quartet-in-Residence at the ENCORE Chamber Music Institute and participated in the Montreal International String Quartet Academy. Roman later returned to ENCORE as a Violin Fellow and performed in Hawaii alongside Jinjoo Cho, Eric Wong, and Jared Blajian.

In 2018, Roman was invited by Artist-in-Residence Philip Chiu to perform in Halifax as part of the Cecilia Concerts series, sharing the stage with distinguished artists including Measha Brueggergosman, Jinjoo Cho, Remi Pelletier, Arnold Choi, and Philip Chiu.

After dedicating several years to sustainable farming initiatives between 2019 and 2024, Roman returned to professional performance and relocated to Halifax in 2025. He currently serves as Assistant Principal Second Violin with Symphony Nova Scotia and performs on an Alessandro Mezzadri violin dating from approximately 1730.
