🍂 Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Hear Quebec!

Our office will be closed Monday, October 12 for Thanksgiving and will reopen Tuesday, October 13.

Whether you're spending the weekend with family, friends, or enjoying a little quiet time, we hope you have a chance to relax and enjoy it.

And a little hearing reminder for the weekend: good conversations don't have to be loud conversations. If you're gathering with someone who has hearing loss, try reducing background noise, getting their attention before speaking, and making sure your face is easy to see.

Sometimes, small changes make it easier for everyone to be part of the conversation. 💛

Wishing you a safe, happy and restful Thanksgiving weekend!

If you have hearing loss, chances are you've heard at least one of these before. 👀

And sometimes you just laugh it off.

Sometimes you get frustrated.

And sometimes you think, "I really don't have the energy to explain this again."

Hearing loss can come with a lot of little moments that other people don't always notice, especially when you're constantly trying to keep up with conversations.

So we're curious: What's a phrase you've hear that makes you thin, "Yep...that's the hearing loss experience"? 👇

We might just have to add it to the list.

Sometimes hearing looks like this:

You catch a few words
You piece together the context
You make an educated guess
And you really, really hope you guessed correctly

If you've experienced hearing loss, you might know the feeling of trying to follow a conversation without wanting to constantly interrupt with "What did you say?"

And sometimes you get it right.

Sometimes... you absolutely do not.

If you know, you know 👀

What's you most relatable, "hearing loss moment"?

💡Hearing hack: Going somewhere noisy? Choose your seat strategically.

If you have hearing loss, you might already know that where you sit can make a surprisingly big difference.

Try sitting with your back to a wall, or choose a sport where you can easily see the people you're talking to and what's happening around you.

Why? It can make it easier to:
👀Keep faces in view
🗣️Pick up visual cures when you miss a word or two
↔️See who's speaking or joining the coversation
🔊Avoid having people talking behind you

It won't make a noisy space quiet, but sometimes a better seat can mean a little less work to keep up.

And if you've been living with hearing loss for a while, you probably have a few strategies of your own.

What's you go-to hearing hack for noisy places? Share it below, someone else might find it useful

Restaurants can be a great place to catch up, but they can also be one of the hardest place to follow a conversation when you have hearing loss.

Background music. Multiple conversations. Poor lighting. People turning away while they talk. Sometimes, simply speaking louder isn't the solution.

Small changes can make communication easier, and it's okay to ask for what you need.

Looking for more practical strategies? Our Tip for Facilitating Communication tip sheet includes suggestions for both people with hearing loss and the family, friends, and communication partners.

A device can make a difference, but sometimes people need a little help getting started.

Through Include ME at Home, Hear Quebec helps members set up their assistive-listening technology in their own homes, learn how to use it, and troubleshoot it when they need support.

Last year, our ambassadors completed 42 home visits and supported 71 members. This year, we're hoping to reach even more members.

💙That's where you can help.

We're looking for Include ME at Home Ambassadors who want to make a practical difference in the everyday lives of people affected by hearing loss.

You don't have to have all the answers. You'll receive training and support to help members get the most of their technology.

👉Interested in becoming an ambassador? Contact Hear Quebec to learn more.

📢Hear Quebec will be closed Monday, September 7 for Labour Day.

As we head into the long weekend, we're also taking a moment to recognize hearing health professionals, community partners, and others who support people living with hearing loss. Your work helps make communication, connections, and access possible everyday. 💙

And a little reminder for the weekend, good communication is a shared responsibility. Face the person you're speaking with, reduce background noise when possible, and don't be afraid to ask someone to repeat or rephrase.
