On Friday, May 8, we celebrated the inauguration of the new Sensory Exploration and Training Wing at MAB-Mackay for children who are blind or visually impaired.
What a wonderful way to celebrate this incredible new space designed to support children who are blind or have vision impairments. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this project and helped bring it to life. We look forward to seeing the joy, confidence, adaptability, and independence it will foster for years to come.

Le vendredi 8 mai, nous avons célébré l’inauguration de la nouvelle aile dédiée à l’exploration sensorielle et à la formation au centre MAB-Mackay, destinée aux enfants aveugles ou malvoyants.
Quelle merveilleuse façon de célébrer ce nouvel espace incroyable, conçu pour eux. Nous sommes immensément reconnaissants envers toutes les personnes qui ont contribué à ce projet et aidé à le concrétiser. Nous avons hâte de voir la joie, la confiance, la résilience et l’autonomie qu’il favorisera au cours des années à venir.

Alors que le mois de mai touche à sa fin, nous revenons sur l’incroyable événement qu’a été le qui s’est déroulé du 23 avril au 3 mai.
Cet événement sportif permet aux enfants de pratiquer des sports où ils ne se seraient peut-être jamais imaginés. Il crée un sentiment d’appartenance et des liens qui peuvent durer toute une vie. Il offre également aux enfants l’espoir et la confiance nécessaires pour sortir de leur zone de confort.
La Fondation Habilitas a été ravie d’accompagner nos participants dans leur réussite, et nous attendons déjà avec impatience l’année prochaine!

As we wrap up the month of May, we look back at the incredible held from April 23 to May 3.
This sporting event gives children the chance to participate in sports where they may never have imagined themselves. It creates a sense of belonging and the potential for lifelong connections. It also provides children with hope and confidence that encourages them to step outside their comfort zones.
The Habilitas Foundation was thrilled to support our participants in their success, and we’re already looking forward to next year!

Quel honneur pour la Fondation Habilitas d’avoir participé au Dîner des Champions organisé par la La Fondation des Canadiens pour l'enfance. Grâce à leur généreux soutien, nous pourrons offrir des tricycles adaptés aux élèves du Centre Mackay. Ces tricycles permettront à nos jeunes à mobilité réduite de participer activement à des activités physiques significatives, développant leur force, leur coordination et leur confiance, tout en s’amusant.

What an honour for the Habilitas Foundation to have participated in the Champions Lunch hosted by the La Fondation des Canadiens pour l'enfance. Thanks to their generous support, we will be able to provide adaptive tricycles to students at Mackay Centre School. These tricycles will allow our young people with reduced mobility to actively participate in meaningful physical activities, developing their strength, coordination and confidence, all while having fun.

Le Défi sportif a été un événement incroyable. Voir les jeunes se présenter, donner le meilleur d’eux-mêmes et vraiment apprécier de faire partie de quelque chose comme ça, c’était très significatif. C’est bien plus que du sport ; c’est une question d’inclusion, de confiance et de communauté. Le Défi sportif 2026 est définitivement un moment qui ne sera pas oublié.

"But I can do it."

That's what Maya told her mom before she took the bus to the mall by herself for the first time.

She's legally blind. She couldn't see the bus number, the steps, or which stop was coming. But she had her white cane, her
route — and years of practice with the MAB-Mackay team.

When she called her mom to say she'd made it? One of the proudest moments of her life.

C'est ce que Maya a dit à sa mère avant de prendre le bus toute seule pour aller au centre commercial pour la première fois.

Elle est légalement aveugle. Elle ne voyait pas le numéro du bus, les marches, ni quel arrêt approchait. Mais elle avait sa canne
blanche, son itinéraire — et des années de pratique avec l'équipe du MAB-Mackay.

Quand elle a appelé sa mère pour lui dire qu'elle était bien arrivée? L'un des moments dont elle a été la plus fière de sa vie.
