Bien plus qu’une aide à la mobilité, la canne blanche est un outil essentiel qui permet aux personnes vivant avec une déficience visuelle de se déplacer avec plus d’indépendance, de confiance et de sécurité.

Cette journée nous rappelle l’importance de créer des communautés accessibles et de respecter l’autonomie des personnes qui utilisent une canne blanche.

La Fondation Habilitas est fière de soutenir les services d'orientation et de mobilité offerts par le MAB-Mackay aux personnes ayant une perte de vision.

Today, we recognize International White Cane Safety Day! 💙

More than just a mobility aid, the white cane is an essential tool that helps people living with vision loss navigate their surroundings with greater independence, confidence, and safety.

This day reminds us of the importance of creating accessible communities and respecting the autonomy of people who use white canes.

La première fois que Sofia a été installée dans une poussette adaptée juste pour elle, tout son corps s'est détendu. 💙 Elle a maintenant six ans et adore la piscine, son vélo et danser dans son fauteuil roulant. Elle vit avec une maladie génétique rare qui affecte son énergie, son développement et sa vision, et depuis quatre ans, l'équipe de MAB-Mackay l'aide à développer la force et les compétences dont elle a besoin.

The first time Sofia was positioned in a stroller built just for her, her whole body relaxed. 💙 She's six now, and she loves the pool, her bike, and dancing in her wheelchair to music. She lives with a rare genetic condition affecting her energy, development, and vision, and for four years the team at MAB-Mackay has helped her build the strength and skills she needs.

Happy Disability Pride Month!

Every day I come to work at Habilitas, I am reminded why this work matters. This month is a chance to celebrate the voices, the resilience, and the achievements of people living with disabilities, and to keep pushing for a world where physical disabilities are no longer disabling.

Through MAB-Mackay, Constance-Lethbridge, Camp Massawippi, Centre Action, and the Mackay Centre and Philip E. Layton schools, I witness the incredible strength of the human spirit, and what it allows us to accomplish, every single day. The determination, the creativity, the sheer will of the people we walk alongside continues to inspire me.

Disability Pride Month reminds us that disability is a beautiful and vital part of human diversity, and that true inclusion means equity, empowerment, and belonging for every person.

It is a true privilege to be part of this movement of hope and determination. Together, let's keep building a world where everyone belongs!

This year, the Quebec Federation of the Blind marks 100 years. Since 1926, it has stood
alongside people living with vision loss across Québec. Congratulations on a century of
service.💙

Paul Gareau states “"In the years since then, the QFB has been very active in organising
information events and social outings and activities for its members, public education regarding
vision loss, as well as the provision of bursaries to its members or children of members. The
QFB recognizes the importance of the blind and visually impaired community coming together.
"
This commitment to community, education, and empowerment has been at the heart of the
Federation's work for a century. Today, we celebrate the people, partnerships, and shared
experiences that have shaped the QFB's legacy and continue to build a more inclusive future for
all.

Cette année, la Fédération des aveugles du Québec célèbre 100 ans. Depuis 1926, elle est aux
côtés des personnes vivant avec une perte de vision partout au Québec. Félicitations pour un
siècle d'engagement.💙

Le 17 juin, l’équipe de la Fondation Habilitas s’est réunie pour un Thank-A-Thon — une soirée consacrée à remercier personnellement plus de 200 donateurs pour leur soutien.
Chaque don soutient les personnes vivant avec une perte de vision, une perte auditive ou une incapacité physique, par l’entremise des organisations que nous soutenons. Ce soir-là, on voulait juste que vous le sachiez.

On June 17, the Habilitas Foundation team came together for a Thank-A-Thon — an evening dedicated to personally thanking more than 200 donors for their support.
Every gift supports people living with vision loss, hearing loss, and physical disabilities through the organisations we serve as their official foundation. That evening, we just wanted you to know it.

On Friday, May 8, we celebrated the inauguration of the new Sensory Exploration and Training Wing at MAB-Mackay for children who are blind or visually impaired.
What a wonderful way to celebrate this incredible new space designed to support children who are blind or have vision impairments. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this project and helped bring it to life. We look forward to seeing the joy, confidence, adaptability, and independence it will foster for years to come.

Le vendredi 8 mai, nous avons célébré l’inauguration de la nouvelle aile dédiée à l’exploration sensorielle et à la formation au centre MAB-Mackay, destinée aux enfants aveugles ou malvoyants.
Quelle merveilleuse façon de célébrer ce nouvel espace incroyable, conçu pour eux. Nous sommes immensément reconnaissants envers toutes les personnes qui ont contribué à ce projet et aidé à le concrétiser. Nous avons hâte de voir la joie, la confiance, la résilience et l’autonomie qu’il favorisera au cours des années à venir.

Alors que le mois de mai touche à sa fin, nous revenons sur l’incroyable événement qu’a été le qui s’est déroulé du 23 avril au 3 mai.
Cet événement sportif permet aux enfants de pratiquer des sports où ils ne se seraient peut-être jamais imaginés. Il crée un sentiment d’appartenance et des liens qui peuvent durer toute une vie. Il offre également aux enfants l’espoir et la confiance nécessaires pour sortir de leur zone de confort.
La Fondation Habilitas a été ravie d’accompagner nos participants dans leur réussite, et nous attendons déjà avec impatience l’année prochaine!

As we wrap up the month of May, we look back at the incredible held from April 23 to May 3.
This sporting event gives children the chance to participate in sports where they may never have imagined themselves. It creates a sense of belonging and the potential for lifelong connections. It also provides children with hope and confidence that encourages them to step outside their comfort zones.
The Habilitas Foundation was thrilled to support our participants in their success, and we’re already looking forward to next year!

Quel honneur pour la Fondation Habilitas d’avoir participé au Dîner des Champions organisé par la La Fondation des Canadiens pour l'enfance. Grâce à leur généreux soutien, nous pourrons offrir des tricycles adaptés aux élèves du Centre Mackay. Ces tricycles permettront à nos jeunes à mobilité réduite de participer activement à des activités physiques significatives, développant leur force, leur coordination et leur confiance, tout en s’amusant.

What an honour for the Habilitas Foundation to have participated in the Champions Lunch hosted by the La Fondation des Canadiens pour l'enfance. Thanks to their generous support, we will be able to provide adaptive tricycles to students at Mackay Centre School. These tricycles will allow our young people with reduced mobility to actively participate in meaningful physical activities, developing their strength, coordination and confidence, all while having fun.
