St-James Drop-In Centre We offer a safe & supportive environment where those who are marginalized and/or homeless can experience community to its fullest.

Since October 1985, the St-James Drop-In Centre in downtown Montreal has catered to people struggling with issues related to homelessness, mental illness and addiction. The Centre offers basic services such as hot nutritious meals, access to showers, and clean clothes. We also provide counselling, crisis intervention, monitoring of medication and assistance with welfare. We help find housing, acco

mpany people to medical appointments and liaise with outside agencies such as legal services, hospitals, rehabilitation programs, shelters, (etc). Since 2012, we also run an employment reintegration program called Streetsuds (http://streetsuds.org/). The Drop-In takes part in Emploi Québec’s employment program: PAAS-Action, a provincial government-subsidized program that gently reintegrates participants into the workforce. Capable users of the Centre are given the opportunity to develop their social and work skills with part-time employment at St-James & at Streetsuds. The Centre also serves as a teaching facility, by offering internship positions to social services students from Dawson College, Cégep du Vieux-Montreal, from various colleges in France (etc) and fine arts students at Concordia University. Individuals using the Centre have a large amount of freedom in deciding how they wish to spend their day. They can chat with other members or staff, receive help with an immediate problem, sleep, watch television, use the telephone, help with meal preparation, play board games or participate in the many programs that St-James offers: poetry, art, music, and more. The St-James Centre creates an environment where its members feel safe and comfortable in a community where they can have their physical and mental needs addressed. The Drop-In tries to provide genuine acceptance with individually-tailored programs seeking to enhance the quality of life and unwavering advocacy and representation. The bonds of warmth and affection among members are remarkable. There is a real sense of family that comes from spend
ing so much time with the same people and it is the kindness, support and help that members, volunteers, and staff extend to each other that allow us all to make the St-James Drop-In Centre a place where people can truly feel “at home”.

Today we want to give a special thanks to Kirsten Diachidos for bringing our members much needed supplies (underwear, baseball hats, T-shirts, deodorant and more!) just because she cares. And to our longtime supporter George Greene who came by with a new volunteer and some goodies for our members.

Self-care is so important and everyone deserves to be pampered once in a while. ✨
Aromatherapy, hand soaks, hand masks, hand massages and tasty snacks were all part of the St-James Spa experience today. Some members wanted their nails painted and one even offered to give Luka a little colour!
We encourage you all to take time to care for yourselves this weekend. ✨🤍

St-James Carnival day 🎉🎉
Bad weather didn't matter - we celebrated our Carnival day anyway! Our magician had to cancel but since our chef/music program coordinator Mark is basically a musical magician, we sang and danced the day away!
Our St-James Oracle Cass read tarot cards and dazzled our members with her crystal ball and wowed the crowd with his fantastical juggling! 🎉🎉✨✨ Hooray for the magic of St-James Drop-In!
