After the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the French took control of the region of Cilicia, and a large-scale repatriation campaign was organized to send Armenian refugees back to their hometowns. The return to Cilicia symbolized a potential normalcy for the refugees. AGBU worked to create essential infrastructure for socio-economic growth, establishing schools, medical facilities, and agricultural investments.

Two years later, however, the period of optimism came to an end as Armenians were once again forced to flee Cilicia after the French ceded the region to the nascent Turkish Republic. AGBU leadership reacted quickly, evacuating Armenians and resettling them in Syria and Lebanon.

«ԼԵՌՆԱՅԻՆ ՂԱՐԱԲԱՂԻ ՀԱԿԱՄԱՐՏՈՒԹԻՒՆՆ ՈՒ ԿՈՐՍՈՒԱԾ ՀՆԱՐԱՒՈՐՈՒԹԻՒՆՆԵՐԸ» ԳԻՐՔԻ ՆԵՐԿԱՅԱՑՈՒՄ ԵՒ ՖԻԼՄԻ ՑՈՒՑԱԴՐՈՒԹԻՒՆ

Չորեքշաբթի, Յունիս 3-ին, ՀԲԸՄ Մոնթրէալի մէջ տեղի ունեցաւ «Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի Հակամարտութիւնն ու Կորսուած Հնարաւորութիւնները» խորագիրով յատուկ ձեռնարկ մը։

Ձեռնարկի բացումը կատարեց Օրդ. Նայիրի Ճիճի, ուր ան ներկայացուց օրուան նիւթը, ինչպէս նաեւ հիւրերը՝ Տիար Հրայր Պալեանի եւ Տիկին Յասմիկ Էճեանի հարուստ կենսագրականներն ու անոնց ծաւալած ազգանուէր գործունէութիւնը:

Ձեռնարկը սկսաւ Տիկին Յասմիկ Էճեանի արտադրած «I Decided to Fight» վաւերագրական կարճ ֆիլմի ցուցադրութեամբ, որ պատմեց 2020-ի Արցախեան պատերազմին ծանր վիրաւորուած երեք հայ երիտասարդներու պայքարին, տոկունութեան եւ կեանքը շարունակելու վճռակամութեան մասին։

Այնուհետեւ, Տիար Հրայր Պալեան ներկայացուց իր «Anatomy of Peacemaking» գիրքը, որ կը քննէ Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի հակամարտութեան շուրջ աւելի քան երեք տասնամեակ տեւած խաղաղութեան բանակցութիւններու ընթացքը, բաց թողնուած հնարաւորութիւնները եւ խաղաղութեան գործընթացի ձախողման հիմնական պատճառները։

Ձեռնարկի աւարտին տեղի ունեցաւ հետաքրքրական, անկեղծ ու երկկողմանի հարց ու պատասխան, ուր ներկաները առիթ ունեցան իրենց հարցումները ուղղելու երկու հիւրերուն եւ քննարկելու Արցախի եւ ներկայ ժամանակներու մարտահրաւէրներուն առնչուող հարցեր։

ԾԱՆՐԱԲԱՐՁՈՒԹԵԱՆ ԱԽՈՅԵԱՆ ՆԱԶԻԿ ԱՎՏԱԼԵԱՆԻ ԱՅՑԵԼՈՒԹԻՒՆԸ ՀԲԸՄ ԱԼԵՔ ՄԱՆՈՒԿԵԱՆ ՎԱՐԺԱՐԱՆ

Երկուշաբթի, 2 Յունիս 2026-ին ՀԲԸՄ «Ալեք Մանուկեան» վարժարանը հիւրընկալեց աշխարհի ծանրաբարձութեան ախոյեան՝ Տիկին Նազիկ Ավտալեանը։ Տիկին Ավատլեանին կ՚ընկերակցէր Քէպէքի մէջ Հայաստանի Հանրապետութեան Պատուոյ Հիւպատոս Տիար Լեւոն Աֆէյեան:

Այցելութեան ընթացքին, մեծանուն մարզիկը հանդիպում ունեցաւ Վարժարանիս բարձրագոյն դասարաններու աշակերտներուն հետ։ Տեղի ունեցաւ հետաքրքրական, անկեղծ ու մտերմիկ զրոյց մը, որուն ընթացքին աշակերտները հնարաւորութիւն ունեցան իրենց յուզող հարցումները ուղղելու ախոյեանին՝ անոր մարզական ուղիին, կամքի ուժին և դժուարութիւնները յաղթահարելու մասին։

Տիկին Ավտալեան բարձր գնահատեց վարժարանիս առաքելութիւնը։ Ան իր սրտի խօսքին մէջ յորդորեց մեր պատանիներուն ու երիտասարդներուն երբեք չյանձնուիլ դժուարութիւններու, զբաղիլ մարզանքով, միշտ ձգտիլ մասնագիտական բարձրունքներու և հպարտօրէն բարձր պահել հայու անունն ու պատիւը միջազգային բեմերու վրայ։

Նմանօրինակ հանդիպումները լաւագոյն խթանն ու ներշնչման աղբիւրն են մեր նորահաս սերունդին համար՝ քալելու յաղթանակներու ճամբով։

ՏԻԱՐ ՅԱԿՈԲ ՃԸՂԸԼԵԱՆԻ ԱՅՑԵԼՈՒԹԻՒՆԸ ՀԲԸՄ ԿԵԴՐՈՆ ԵՒ ԱԼԵՔ ՄԱՆՈՒԿԵԱՆ ՎԱՐԺԱՐԱՆ

Չորեքշաբթի, 27 Մայիս 2026-ին, ՀԲԸՄ Մոնթրէալի Մասնաճիւղ եւ Ալեք Մանուկեան վարժարան այցելեց Լիբանանի Հայ Երիտասարդաց Ընկերակցութեան (ՀԵԸ) Կեդրոնական Վարչութեան ատենապետ եւ ՀԲԸՄ Շրջանակային Յանձնաժողովի անդամ Տիար Յակոբ Ճըղըլեան, ընկերակցութեամբ իր ազնուափայլ տիկնոջ։

Այցելութիւնը առանձնայատուկ նշանակութիւն ունէր, որովհետեւ Տիար Յակոբ Ճըղըլեան որոշ ժամանակ աշակերտած է ՀԲԸՄ Ալեք Մանուկեան վարժարանին մէջ։ Տարիներ ետք իր վերադարձը դպրոց՝ ջերմ ընդունելութեան արժանացաւ ՀԲԸՄ Վարչութեան եւ Վարժարանիս տնօրէնութեան եւ ուսանողութեան կողմէ։

Իր խօսքին մէջ ան սիրով անդրադարձաւ դպրոցական տարիներու իր փորձառութեան մասին եւ գնահատեց այն աշխատանքը, որ կը տարուի մեր նոր սերունդի կրթութեան ու հայեցի դաստիարակութեան համար։

It is with profound sadness that AGBU Montreal announces the passing of its longtime member
Richard W. Elliott (1959–2026).

Richard was a cherished member of the AGBU Montreal family for many years. Known for his kindness, generosity, friendship, and unwavering support of our community, he touched the lives of countless members through his involvement in AGBU Sports. His presence, warm spirit, and commitment to bringing people together will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

On behalf of the AGBU Montreal Board of Directors, Sports Committee, and all our members, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Dr. Lena Terjanian-Elliott; Mr. and Mrs. Raffi and Mariam Elliott; Mr. and Mrs. Patrick and Julija Elliott; Mr. and Mrs. Michal and Maral Elliott-Celeda; their children; and all family members and loved ones during this difficult time.

This book examines the failure of more than 30 years of Nagorno-Karabakh peace negotiations within the broader Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict and analyzes the responses and motivations of the parties involved, the role of international mediators, missed opportunities, geopolitical factors, and the main reasons the peace process ultimately failed.

Followed by a short complementary screening of the documentary: «I Decided to Fight» (Produced by Hasmik Egian).
The evening will conclude with an interactive Q&A session with both guests, with a special focus on the book's insights.

With the fate of the nation in the balance and with widespread assistance serving refugees throughout the Middle East, Greece, and Cyprus, AGBU leadership knew that rebuilding thriving, post-war Armenian communities depended on reopening AGBU chapters and developing infrastructure in these areas. By 1919, AGBU chapters in Aleppo, Beirut, Baghdad, Damascus, and Jerusalem were all up and running, ready to provide educational programs and medical assistance as needed.

The Day of the First Republic is a national public holiday celebrating the establishment of the First Republic of Armenia in 1918, following heroic victories by the Armenian army against Ottoman forces. These were great and essential triumphs for the nation, which had suffered through the Genocide and constant threats from the Ottoman Empire during World War I. Although the independence lasted until 1921, when Armenia became part of the Soviet Union for 70 years, Armenians still celebrate May 28 as the beginning of the modern quest for democracy.
