For Sunday service today, we went to Pastor Stepan’s church. The three women who were baptized yesterday were present. Pastor Joseph preached a message and Ann-Margret, Jonathan, and Shubroto shared short testimonies and words of encouragement. After the service, several people asked the pastor for private prayers for their specific situations.

A woman who only recently began attending this church, Hasmik, speaks Greek and English and she had invited us for dinner tonight the first time we attended the Tuesday night Bible study there.

At her home this evening, we were treated to homestyle Greek cuisine. . . very different from what we have gotten used to eating in Armenia, which was a nice change.

We didn’t know much about Hasmik but that naturally changed over dinner. She had also invited her mother who initially didn’t know how she would be able to come, although she eagerly wanted to, because she lives in a small village about 50 miles away. However, at the last minute, she was able to get a ride from a family member who happened to be coming to Yerevan this evening.

Not only did we all enjoy a great meal together, but we also had a great time of fellowship. It turns out that Hasmik is a translator who works for the Bible Society and knows the other contacts we have already met from there.

Tonight’s meeting is another example of how God lined up events in order for each of us to be in the right place at the right time. It was evident that our gathering was a blessing and encouragement for us all, and we will continue to pray for these women to grow in their faith.

Ποιος μπορεί να λύσει τα προβλήματά μας;

Πριν από μερικά χρόνια μού έλεγε η γυναίκα μου ότι είχε
μιλήσει με ορισμένους πολύ γνωστούς της ανθρώπους για τα
προβλήματά τους, αλλά και με κάποιους άλλους που ελάχιστα
γνώριζε. Μου μιλούσε με πολύ πάθος και διέκρινα τον πόνο στο
πρόσωπό της. Όταν τη διέκοψα με ένα σχόλιο, σταμάτησε για μια
στιγμή και στη συνέχεια αναφώνησε: «Όλοι οι άνθρωποι έχουν
προβλήματα! Τι συμβαίνει; Υπάρχει τόσος πολύς πόνος στον κόσμο
μας!»
Ναι, υπάρχουν προβλήματα, όπου κι αν κοιτάξουμε. Τα μωρά
έχουν προβλήματα. Τα παιδιά και οι νέοι έχουν προβλήματα. Οι
γονείς, οι σύζυγοι, οι κυβερνήσεις και οι πολιτικοί. Οι εκκλησίες,
τα μέλη και οι ηγεσίες τους, εσύ κι εγώ, όλοι μας έχουμε προβλή-
ματα!
Υπάρχουν πολλά προβλήματα διαφόρων ειδών. Αλλά το μεγαλύτερο
πρόβλημα είναι ότι υπάρχουν λίγοι – εάν υπάρχουν κι αυτοί – που
μπορούν να δώσουν λύση στα προβλήματα. Δεν θα είχε σημασία
πόσο μεγάλο είναι το πρόβλημά σου, αν γνώριζες κάποιον παντοδύ-
ναμο που θα μπορούσε να δώσει λύση στα προβλήματά μας. Η ασθένεια, η ενοχή, η οικονομική αβεβαιότητα, η απώλεια
ενός αγαπημένου προσώπου, οι αμφιβολίες, οι φόβοι, η μοναξιά
και η κατάθλιψη είναι μόνο μερικά από τα προβλήματα που οι άν-
θρωποι έχουν να αντιμετωπίσουν σε καθημερινή βάση. Και οι άν-
θρωποι δοκιμάζουν σχεδόν τα πάντα για να λύσουν τα προβλήματά
τους – τα πάντα εκτός από το σωστό.
Ποιο είναι το σωστό; Φυσικά, το να πάνε στον Μεγάλο Λύτη
προβλημάτων, τον Ιησού Χριστό, τον ίδιο τον Θεό! Επειδή, όμως,
αυτό για μερικούς ανθρώπους είναι πάρα πολύ απλό και τους
φαίνεται μη ρεαλιστικό, αναζητούν κάποιον άλλον ή κάτι άλλο για
να λύσουν τα προβλήματά τους, αλλά μάταια.
Στο Κατά Ματθαίον Ευαγγέλιο κεφ. 9 βλέπουμε ότι ο Ιησούς
έχει τόσο την ικανότητα όσο και την εξουσία να λύνει προβλήματα
– σωματικά, συναισθηματικά και πνευματικά. Το πρόβλημα βέβαια
ήταν η απροθυμία των ανθρώπων να δεχτούν τον Ιησού. Μερικοί
αδιαφορούσαν για τη διδασκαλία Του, άλλοι θύμωναν με Αυτόν.
Ωστόσο, εκείνοι που Τον πίστεψαν και δέχτηκαν τον Λόγο Του,
πήγαν σ’ Αυτόν, είδαν τις ανάγκες τους να ικανοποιούνται και τα
προβλήματά τους να λύνονται.
Σ’ αυτούς που Τον αμφισβητούσαν και ήταν εναντίον Του, ο
Ιησούς απέδειξε την εξουσία Του να συγχωρεί αμαρτίες, θερα-
πεύοντας ασθενείς. Το αποτέλεσμα ήταν άμεσο και αξιοσημείωτο:
οι άνθρωποι φοβήθηκαν και δόξασαν τον Θεό (εδάφιο 😎. Στη συ-
νέχεια, ο ένας μετά τον άλλο, ένας παράλυτος, ένας άρχοντας, μια
γυναίκα που αιμορραγούσε για δώδεκα χρόνια, δύο τυφλοί άνδρες
και ένας κωφάλαλος δαιμονισμένος βρέθηκαν στον δρόμο Του. Ο
Ιησούς ικανοποίησε τις προσωπικές τους ανάγκες με δυνατά αλλά
και τρυφερά λόγια και έδωσε στον καθένα τους μήνυμα ειρήνης
και θάρρους. Ο Ιησούς συνέχισε τη διακονία Του: το κήρυγμα, τη
διδασκαλία, τη θεραπεία και τη διάδοση των Καλών Νέων της Βασιλείας. Και το ίδιο εξακολουθεί να κάνει και σήμερα.
Αγαπητέ φίλε, ο Θεός μπορεί να μη σου δίνει πάντα τη σοφίαγια να λύσεις το πρόβλημά σου, αλλά μπορείς να είσαι βέβαιος ότι
ο Ιησούς είναι δυνατός για να το χειριστεί, φιλεύσπλαχνος για να
το νιώσει, στοργικός για να το φροντίσει και σοφός για να
ασχοληθεί με αυτό. Δώσε όλες σου τις ανησυχίες σ’ Αυτόν, γιατί
δεν αποτυγχάνει ποτέ να λύνει τα προβλήματά μας.

Who Can Solve Our Problems?

A few years ago, my wife was talking to me about some conversations she had had with people she knew well and others whom she hardly knew. She was speaking to me passionately and I could see pain on her face. When I interrupted her with a comment, she stopped for a moment and then exclaimed, “Everyone has a problem! What’s going on? There is so much pain out there.”
Yes, there are problems, no matter where you look. Babies have problems; children and young people have problems; parents, husbands and wives; governments and politicians; churches, their members and leaders; you and I… we all have problems!
There are all kinds of problems… and there are many of them. But the biggest problem is that there are few, if any, problem solvers. It wouldn’t matter how big your problem was if you knew an infinite Problem Solver.
Sickness, guilt, financial uncertainty, loss of a loved one, doubts, fears, loneliness and depression are only some of the problems people have to deal with on a daily basis. And people will try almost anything to solve their problems… anything except the right thing.
What is the right thing? Of course, the right thing is to go to the Master Problem Solver — Jesus, God Himself!
But that is too simple and unrealistic for some people, and so they go on searching for someone or something else to fix their problems…all in vain.
In Matthew 9, we see that Jesus has both the ability and the authority to solve problems — physical, emotional and spiritual. The problem, of course, was that people were not willing to accept Jesus. Some were indifferent to His claims, others were angry. But those who believed Him and accepted His claims and came to Him had their needs met and their problems solved.
To the questioning and rebellious heart, Jesus proved His authority to forgive sins by demonstrating His power to heal. The effect was instantaneous and remarkable: the people feared and glorified God . Then, one after the other, a paralysed man, a ruler, a woman who was bleeding for 12 years, two blind men and a mute demoniac crossed His path.
Jesus met their personal needs with strong but tender words and spoke to each one of them a message of peace and courage. Jesus continued His ministry… preaching, teaching, healing and spreading the good news of the Kingdom. And He still does today.
Dear friend, God may not always give you the wisdom to solve your own problem, but you can be sure that Jesus is strong enough to handle it, compassionate enough to feel it, loving enough to care for it and wise enough to deal with it. Turn your worries over to the One who never fails to solve our problems

Ո՞Վ ԿԱՐՈՂ Է ԼՈՒԾԵԼ ՄԵՐ ԽՆԴԻՐՆԵՐԸ

Տարիներ առաջ կինս պատմում էր իր զրույցների մասին: Նա զրու-
ցել էր տարբեր մարդկանց հետ, որոնցից մի մասին լավ էր ճանաչում,
մյուսների մասին քիչ բան գիտեր: Նա ոգևորությամբ էր խոսում, և դեմ-
քին նկատելի էր ցավը: Երբ ընդհատեցի, նա մի պահ կանգ առավ և
ասաց. «Բոլորն էլ խնդիրներ ունեն, այս ի՞նչ է կատարվում, որքա՜ն ցավ
կա ամենուրեք»:
Այո՛, ամենուրեք խնդիրներ կան: Նորածինները, երեխաները, երի-
տասարդները, ծնողները, ամուսինները, իշխանավորներն ու քաղաքա-
գետները, եկեղեցիների անդամներն ու առաջնորդները, դու, ես…բոլորս
էլ խնդիրներ ունենք: Բազմազան խնդիրներ կան, բայց ամենամեծ
խնդիրն այն է, որ քիչ են խնդիր լուծողները: Եթե ճանաչեիր լավագույն
խնդիրներ լուծողին, քեզ համար նշանակություն չէր ունենա, թե որքան
մեծ է քո խնդիրը:
Հիվանդությունը, հանցավորության զգացումը, ֆինանսական անա-
պահովությունը, սիրելիի կորուստը, կասկածները, վախերը, միայնա-
կությունն ու ընկճախտը խնդիրներ են, որոնք պետք է ամեն օր լուծել:
Հաճախ մարդիկ իրենց խնդիրները լուծելու համար փորձում են ամեն
բան` բացի ճիշտ տարբերակից: Իսկ ո՞րն է ճիշտ լուծումը. գնալ ճիշտ
լուծող վարպետի` Աստծո մոտ: Ոմանց համար դա չափազանց պարզու-
նակ ու ոչ իրատեսական է, ուստի նրանք ապարդյուն ինչ-որ մեկին են
փնտրում իրենց խնդիրների լուծման համար:
Մատթեոս 9-ում տեսում ենք, որ Հիսուսը ֆիզիկական, հուզական և
հոգևոր խնդիրները լուծելու կարողություն և իշխանություն ունի:
Անշուշտ, խնդիրն այն է, որ մարդիկ չեն ուզում ընդունել Հիսուսին:Ոմանք անտարբեր են, ոմանք էլ բարկացած են նրա ազդարարություն-
ներից: Բայց նրան հավատացող, նրա ազդարարություններն ընդունող
և նրան մոտեցող մարդկանց կյանքի մասին հոգ է տարվել, իսկ խնդիր-
ները լուծվել են: Ցույց տալով իր բժշկող զորությունը` Հիսուսը կասկա-
ծամիտ ու ըմբոստ մադկանց ապացուցեց, որ ինքը մեղքեր ներելու իշ-
խանություն ունի: Արդյունքն ակնթարթային էր ու հիասքանչ: Մարդիկ
սկսում էին զարմանալ ու վախենալ Աստծուց (Մթ. 9.8):
Հետո մեկը մյուսի հետևից նրա ճանապարհին հայտնվեցին անդա-
մալույծը, իշխանավորը, 12 տարի արյունահոսող կինը, երկու կույրերը և
խուլ դիվահարը: Հիսուսն ազդու, բայց մեղմ խոսքերով հոգում էր
նրանց անձնական կարիքներն ու յուրաքանչյուրին տալիս էր խաղա-
ղություն ու համարձակության պատգամ: Հիսուսը շարունակում էր իր
ծառայությունն ու քարոզելը, ուսուցանելը, բժշկելն ու Բարի լուրը տա-
րածելը: Եվ այսօր էլ նա շարունակում է նույնն անել:
Սիրելի՛ բարեկամ, թերևս, Աստված միշտ չէ, որ քեզ կտա քո խնդիրը
լուծելու իմաստությունը, բայց վստա՛հ եղիր, որ Հիսուսն ի զորու է դա
լուծելու: Նա ունի այնքան կարեկցանք, որ կարող է դա զգալ, ունի այն-
քան սեր, որ կարող է հոգ տանել քեզ համար, և այնքան իմաստնություն
ունի, որ կարող է դա լուծել:Քո անհանգստությունն ու հոգսերը հանձ-
նի՛ր նրան, ով մշտապես կարողանում է լուծել խնդիրները

Although we have often mentioned days where we did not have any clear plans, today was one of the days for which we had planned and prepared the most: baptism day!
We were able to return to the same location as last year, the house with the pool and lovely garden where there was plenty of room for everyone to gather. There were originally 11 candidates this year, but three of them were unable to participate because of health issues. Two of those baptized were from the Horom church. It was nice to see Pastor Tigran and Timotheos again, as well as several other members of their congregation. The other candidates were from Pastor Stepan’s church or contacts of Emmi’s.
Pastor Joseph performed the usual introduction and validation of each candidate’s faith and intent, and then the baptism ceremony began.
The day was hot but the water was cold, as we could tell from the reactions of those who stepped into the pool. But each one braved the chill and, after confirming their profession of faith, willingly ducked below the water’s surface. The last candidate, however, showed no hesitation, no fear, no chill. She practically hopped into the pool and confidently walked down the few steps to meet the pastor and answer his questions with great conviction. It was a joy and a blessing to see.
After the ceremony, we enjoyed food, fellowship, and prayer for an hour or so. During this time, Samvel introduced us to a contact he had brought, a man who had been in prison and is now involved in prison ministry. Despite what we had heard to the contrary, he confirmed that not only would we be able to visit a prison, but we would ALL be able to visit AS MANY PRISONS as we wanted and we would also be able to distribute our devotional books. This is our activity planned for Tuesday, so we will see what happens. Please pray for this important opportunity.
Something else interesting and unexpected happened today. The driver who had brought the Horom group to Yerevan had nowhere to go so he spent his waiting time observing our activities. Afterward, he spoke to Pastor Joseph about baptism. However, since he is not yet born again, the pastor took time to explain the importance of salvation, which baptism then follows. The man said he understood and is ready to take the next step. Pastor Tigran will be following up with him.
When we finished at the baptism site, we returned to the hotel to relax and freshen up, then went to visit the pastor’s cousin, Anahit, where Arayik is now leading another Bible Study. Our presence once again interrupted their usual routine, but we nonetheless had a great evening of fellowship and Bible-based discussions about a variety of topics.
When reflecting on the activities of the past two weeks, we realize that almost every meeting is a Bible study in one form or another. It continues to amaze us how the people we meet are not only in need spiritually but also very open to receiving the gospel message or the spiritual guidance and counsel they are looking for.
Tomorrow starts our last week in Armenia and we are conscious of how short our remaining time here is (we leave on Thursday morning).
May God continue to sustain us as we are completing our mission. Amen.
