We wanted to share an upcoming FREE event series within the Recipes for the Future: Empowering Aging (RFF) network that we’d love your support in promoting across your communities.
This is a great opportunity organized by the engAGE Centre for Research on Aging and the ACT Lab at Concordia University, and it aligns closely with our shared goals around creative engagement, social inclusion, and aging.
We encourage you to circulate the information below through your newsletters, social media, and participant networks.

🎬 Silver Screamers: Special Screening + Q&A (FREE EVENT)
Join us on May 5 for a special screening of the documentary Silver Screamers.

Silver Screamers is a heartwarming and spine-tingling documentary that follows a group of spirited senior citizens as they embark on an extraordinary adventure far outside their comfort zones: creating a horror film. In a quaint retirement community, a diverse group of retirees ranging from former teachers to puppeteers find themselves yearning for excitement and creative expression in their golden years.

Led by a local filmmaker in their community, the seniors pool their talents and resources to produce The Rug, a short horror film that defies expectations and challenges stereotypes. As they dive into filmmaking, they encounter unexpected obstacles and hilariously unforgettable moments. From DIY special effects to on-set drama, the journey is filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a few surprises.

This screening also includes a presentation of The Rug, followed by a special Q&A with director Sean Cisterna.
📍 This event is completely free (registration required) (For more Info click here)

🎥 Bonus: Filmmaking Workshop with the Director (May 4 – FREE)
As part of this event series, there will also be a free, hands-on filmmaking workshop the day before the screening, led by director Sean Cisterna at Concordia University.
This is a great opportunity for participants to engage directly with the filmmaker and explore storytelling, creative production, and collaborative media-making.

mind.heart.mouth is a community-rooted initiative that brings people together through gardening, food, and shared learning since 2019. Rooted at Loyola campus - Concordia University, this project has grown with the New Hope Senior Citizens’ Centre, where it now continues to flourish as part of the Recipes for the Future (RFF) initiative. RFF was made possible by Mind Heart Mouth and their projects and commitments over the years. As our capstone and founding partner, we'd love to announce that Registrations for the 2026 growing season are now open: www.tinyurl.com/RFFgarden

At its core, mind.heart.mouth - ACT living lab gardens creates space for seniors, students, and community members to connect—whether that’s through tending the garden, participating in workshops, or sharing food and knowledge across generations. The work is grounded in care, accessibility, and the belief that food can be a powerful way to build community and support wellbeing.

As part of RFF, we’re excited to continue supporting and growing this work with Andrea and her team—and to welcome new volunteers into the space 🌱

Quick reminder: the MHM Garden is an intergenerational space that brings people together while growing fresh food for New Hope’s Meals on Wheels, Organic Baskets, and Community Lunch Programs. Volunteers aged 50+ commit to one morning shift per week and are eligible to bring home a share of the harvest. The garden is located on the Concordia Loyola Campus.

Stay tuned for more updates on the garden, or join us for lunch service tomorrow at the New Hope Senior Citizens' Centre, where Mind.Heart.Mouth will come to do a mini presentation.

We’ve started harvesting the garlic!

Here’s a little DIY video tutorial on how it should be properly harvested. It’s important to break up the roots with your shovel before pulling it out!

When the bottom leaves are dried out and black spots start to appear on the bottom of the stem, you know it’s time to take the garlic out of the ground.

_______
