Press release, August 22, 2024 - DAQ is exploring all available options to combat animal abuse at the St-Tite Western Festival
It is with deep disappointment that DAQ announces that the Court of Appeal has ruled unfavorably in the lawsuit concerning the use of calves and steers for entertainment purposes at the St-Tite Western Festival. This decision represents a setback for the protection of animals in Quebec, but we remain committed to continuing our fight for their protection.
Many citizens have expressed serious concerns about the new legal status of animal beings, which prohibits mistreatment that could cause injury or death. We remind you that many serious injuries and deaths (in 2008, 2017 and 2024) have already occurred at the St-Tite Western Festival, all for entertainment purposes.
The DAQ is looking at all available options, including alternative ways to advance this cause. We also call for continued community and stakeholder support to help us overcome this challenge.
