Le Cinéclub de Montréal / The Film Society hosts classic screenings at downtown cinema spaces and elsewhere. Ceci est plus qu’un simple visionnement.

Le Cinéclub de Montréal / The Film Society organise des projections classiques dans les salles de cinéma du centre-ville et ailleurs. (English text follows) À travers les années, Le Cinéclub de Montréal a présenté une grande variété de titres, du plus obscur court-métrage expérimental au film épique plus populaire. 5mm sur grand écran. Les conférenciers invités ont inclus des professionels de l’industrie cinématographique et de fascinants experts en différentes disciplines. La plupart des films présentés au Cinéclub ne peuvent être vus nul part ailleurs, ou être expérimentés de la même façon. Nous offront le paradis du cinéphile, qui permet au spectateur de participer à des discussions et apprendre l’histoire du cinéma. Ce sont des événements qui implique de la véritable pellicule! Over the years, The Film Society has been screening a wide variety of titles from incredibly obscure experimental shorts to popular four hour cinemascope epics. Works dating from the 1890s to the 1990s. Always in glorious 16mm or 35mm on the big screen. Guest speakers have included film industry professionals and fascinating experts in a variety of disciplines. Says Film Society founder Philippe Spurrell, “Most of what has screened at The Film Society events cannot be seen elsewhere in any other venue in the city or at least could not have been experienced in quite the same way. We offer a movie-lover’s paradise that allows the spectator to participate in discussions and learn about film history. These are more than screenings. These are events incorporating genuine motion picture film. The “reel” thing!”

Le CFS recherche actuellement un(e) assistant(e) du directeur artistique. Le bilinguisme et une expérience en matière de promotion sur les réseaux sociaux constituent un atout. Aucun talent artistique n’est requis, car la plupart des tâches ne sont pas de nature créative. (Une modeste cachet/rémunération mensuelle sera proposée.)

CFS is now seeking an assistant to the artistic director. Being bilingual and with a knowledge of promotion in social media is an asset. No artistic talent is required as most tasks are not creative. (A small monthly honorarium will be offered.)

Le CFS a été invité par Kinonik, à Portland dans le Maine, à présenter un film tourné à Montréal, le 30 juillet. THE PYX (1973) est un film policier d’horreur surnaturel mettant en vedette Karen Black, Christopher Plummer, Donald Pilon, Yvette Brind’amour et Jean-Louis Roux. Nous espérons pouvoir le projeter ici l'année prochaine. Tout comme le CFS, Kinonik s'attache à préserver et à présenter l'ensemble de ses titres aux formats 16 mm et 35 mm.

Nous sommes attristés d’apprendre le décès récent d’Oliver Jones, légende du jazz montréalais. Nous gardons un excellent souvenir de sa présence lors d’un événement, «Toot Suite», que nous avions organisé à la Salle Bourgie en novembre 2021. Nous l’avions invité à y assister en compagnie de son épouse, Monique Leclerc, et de son amie Anne Rockhead. Lorsque sa présence a été signalée au public, une ovation debout a suivi. Les jeunes artistes qui se produisaient sur scène ce soir-là étaient Théo Abellard, Marie Keteley Abellard et Bestaleel Jean Charles. Ils étaient ravis de le rencontrer.

We are saddened to hear of the recent passing of Montreal's jazz legend, Oliver Jones. We are left with fond memories of his presence at an event we held at Salle Bourgie in November 2021 called Toot Suite. We invited him to attend along with his wife Monique Leclerc and friend Anne Rockhead. When it was pointed out to the audience that he was present, a standing ovation followed. The young artists performing on stage that night were Theo Abellard, Marie Keteley Abellard and Bestaleel Jean-Charles. They were thrilled to meet him, of course.

Notre dernière projection de l'année, le 6 juin, a remporté un succès retentissant ! Un grand merci à Danielle Brown, créatrice de ce spectacle sur le thème des vampires, aux trois autres artistes sur scène, à l'accompagnateur musical Shayne Gryn, à nos bénévoles, à l'Église unie de Westmount Park, au Conseil des arts de Montréal et à vous, le public audacieux qui est venu chercher quelques frissons par cette soirée pluvieuse. Nous reviendrons à l'automne avec une nouvelle série d'événements. À en septembre !

Our last screening event of the year on June 6th was a bloody fang-tastic hit! Our thanks to Danielle Brown, creator of the vampire theatrics, the three other performers, musical accompanist Shayne Gryn, our volunteers, Westmount Park United Church, Conseil des arts de Montréal and especially you, the adventurous audience who came out for delicious scares on a rainy night. We shall return with a new series of events in the fall. See you in September!

Si vous avez des billets pour la représentation de ce soir de VAMPIRE LOVERS, il est important d'arriver tôt pour être sûr d'avoir une bonne place. Les portes ouvrent à 19h. Le show commence à 20h. Il y aura très peu de billets disponibles à la porte, sur la base d'une liste d'attente.

If you have tickets for tonight's presentation of VAMPIRE LOVERS it's important to arrive early to secure a good seat. Doors open at 7pm. The show starts at 8pm. Very few tickets will be available at the door on a standby basis.

Notre dernière projection de la saison hiver-printemps à Concordia a été un véritable succès ! GOLDENEYE a fait salle comble, et le public est venu profiter de la projection en 35 mm avec son surround. On se retrouve là-bas à l'automne avec une autre programmation exceptionnelle !

Our last Concordia-based screening of the Winter-Spring season was golden! GOLDENEYE (1995) attracted a full house that came to enjoy it on 35mm in Surround Sound. We'll see you back there in the fall with another stellar program!

All 200 online tickets have sold for VAMPIRE LOVERS June 6th. There may be a handful available at the door if you arrive early enough. Doors open at 7pm. If you do have tickets, arrive early to secure a good seat.
