Daraja

Daraja Daraja organizes fundraisers to assist with projects run by local community organizations connected to McGill University’s Field Studies in East Africa.

Daraja, Kiswahili for “Bridge”, is the charity alumni group of the Canadian Field Studies in Africa program. Comprising of students that have previously participated in the CFSIA trip to East Africa (and other like-minded folks), we raise funds and awareness for community groups we worked closely with - or learned about - on the ground during our field studies. In 2015/16 our chosen community grou

ps were Vision Sisters Working Sisters and Women’s In Crisis Centre in Kibera slum (Nairobi, Kenya), The Lake Victoria Peace & Sustainability Centre (Rusinga, Kenya), and The Kibale Snare Removal Project (Kibale, Uganda). In 2016/17 we shifted our focus to supporting two Maasai women's groups in Kenya by selling authentic Maasai beadwork and putting on a benefit concert. In the last two years, we have raised over CAD$3,000 for our partner organizations.
