FOSTER HOME REQUIRED!

SENIOR PEPPER NEEDS A PLACE TO LAND
Today, she is living in Kuujjuaq, Northern Québec, where veterinary care is not available. She is suffering from painful yeast infections affecting her ears and skin and needs to get to Montréal for immediate care with a veterinary dermatology specialist. We will cover that care. What we need first is a foster family in the Montréal area, ready to welcome her home.

Pepper cannot fly south to Montréal until her foster placement is secured. Once she arrives, her foster family will play an important role in her recovery, providing the daily and weekly care needed to get her skin and ears healthy again.

But Pepper needs more than medical treatment. Life in Kuujjuaq is extremely stressful for a small senior dog. Encounters with large stray dogs and roaming packs make even simple outings frightening. She will remain permanently in Montréal, where she can finally enjoy a safer, calmer life.

Pepper is 11 years old, weighs just 11 pounds, and has always known what it means to belong to someone.

She loves her walks, loves exploring, and absolutely loves an adventure. Put snow on the ground and she's even happier. She enjoys meeting people along the way, then comes home and happily settles into her favourite role: professional couch cuddler, tucked between your legs while you watch TV.

Pepper is wonderfully easy to live with. She is house-trained, non-destructive and rides well in the car. She is affectionate with people, including respectful children 10 and older, and does well with cats. She can be selective about her canine friends, so a relaxed home where she doesn't have to navigate a busy pack environment would suit her best.

Pepper is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.
What she needs now is simple: a safe home, someone willing to help her through her treatment, and a chance to discover that the next episode of her life will be a good one.

Please fill out an application form and specify that it is to foster Pepper:

LITTLE DOG, BIG AGENDA
18 months old • 10 lbs • Miniature Poodle mix

Maisy may weigh just 10 pounds, but she brings a lot of dog to the table. She is bright, affectionate, playful, curious and full of enthusiasm for life. Maisy was adopted from a local shelter when she was about a year old. She is now looking for an active and committed family who can help her continue to develop into the wonderful dog she is becoming.

Maisy is very eager to learn. She already knows many commands and is a quick, enthusiastic student who loves having something to do. Training, puzzle toys, games, walks, exploring the dog park, learning something new, anything that gets her brain working and her feet moving is a win in Maisy’s world.

Maisy is a young, high-energy dog who needs daily exercise, mental stimulation, enrichment and attention. She will thrive with an active family that can give her plenty of opportunities to run, play, explore and learn. A securely fenced backyard would be ideal.

Social & Playful
Maisy loves people and especially loves asking for cuddles. She also enjoys meeting other dogs. She has made wonderful progress with her socialization and is becoming increasingly confident at the dog park. Maisy could potentially benefit from having a patient, well-matched canine companion in her new home. Her compatibility with cats is currently unknown.

Life Has Given Maisy A Few Things To Work Through
Maisy is still working on house training. With a good routine and positive reinforcement, she may even learn to ring a bell when she needs to go outside.

Maisy also experiences separation anxiety and currently cannot be left alone for more than a few hours at a time. Her new family will need to help her build greater confidence and independence over time.

Maisy currently takes daily medication for anxiety, and her family will need to continue working with their veterinarian to monitor her anxiety and determine her ongoing needs.

Maisy also has shown some resource-guarding behaviours, particularly around high-value food, treats and items. For this reason, we are looking for either an adult-only home or one with kids 14+. Her family should either have experience managing resource guarding or be committed to working with a trainer to learn how to safely and positively manage this behaviour (we will cover a couple of sessions with one of our trainers).

A History That Matters
Maisy cannot be crated because she suffered crate trauma, likely caused by significant confinement stress as a puppy. At only about a year old, she had noticeably reduced muscle mass in her legs, suggesting that confinement had affected her physical development.

A crate is therefore not an appropriate management tool for Maisy. Her new family will need to use other ways of keeping her safe when she cannot be supervised. She is comfortable being gated into different areas of the home when needed.

What Makes Maisy Maisy
Maisy is not a quiet little lapdog looking for somewhere to curl up and spend the day. She has things to do, places to go and people to see. Her mind is always working, and she is happiest when she has an outlet for all that energy. Maisy has proven that she can make meaningful progress. She has become more comfortable around other dogs, has learned commands and continues to discover that the world can be a pretty interesting place.

She is 10 pounds of intelligence, enthusiasm and determination. Maisy is spayed, microchipped and vaccinated.

SPYRO: A BIG PERSONALITY IN A 36-LB PACKAGE

Spyro is a 4-year-old Australian Shepherd mix. Once he decides you are his person, he is all in. Intensely loyal, affectionate, smart and playful, he wants to be close to the people he trusts and involved in whatever they are doing.

As an active herding breed he needs an outlet for both his mind and his body. Spyro thrives with structure, exercise, training and meaningful things to do. He would be an excellent companion for someone who genuinely enjoys an active life with their dog, whether that means hiking, scent work, agility, herding-inspired activities or other forms of enrichment.

His biggest challenge is his anxiety and insecurity. Spyro lacks confidence and can become overwhelmed and hyper-focused in busy, noisy or unfamiliar environments. For this reason, we believe he would do best in a quiet suburban environment with fewer daily triggers and a predictable routine.

He is also significantly affected by being left alone. When unsupervised, he needs to be crated, as his anxiety can lead to accidents and destructive behaviour. He may also bark or howl in his crate, particularly in a new environment. That being said he can stay alone in small blocks of time.

With people, Spyro is affectionate and gentle once he feels comfortable. He loves children, but can be cautious with new visitors, particularly when they enter his home. He may bark, growl or retreat until he feels safe. He can also be more hesitant with men at first. But once Spyro trusts, he bonds deeply and becomes an incredibly devoted friend and companion.

With other dogs, Spyro can make a dramatic first impression. He may rush toward them, bark, whine become extremely excited. Once that initial excitement passes, however, he generally settles and does well. He is not looking for conflict and will usually walk away rather than challenge another dog. Cats and small wildlife are a different story. Spyro has a strong prey drive toward cats and skunks outdoors and cannot be trusted loose around them.

Spyro has good recall most of the time and naturally wants to stay close to his person. He is goofy, expressive and affectionate, with a wonderful sense of humour and an enormous capacity for loyalty.

Spyro needs understanding, consistency and commitment. His adopter will need to continue working with him on his confidence, anxiety and training. His anti-anxiety medication will also need to be monitored with his veterinarian and adjusted as needed. Most importantly, Spyro needs someone willing to give him the time, structure and patience he needs to feel secure.

We are looking for an experienced, patient adopter who understands anxious dogs, enjoys an active lifestyle and is prepared to commit to Spyro for the long haul. In return, you get an incredibly devoted companion who wants nothing more than to belong.

Spyro is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. He may be able to live with a chill, confident dog. He has lived with cats but would need strict supervision with new ones. Kids 12 plus.

URGENT!!!

COCO ISN’T FOR EVERYONE.
BUT MAYBE HE’S JUST RIGHT FOR YOU.

Coco is an 8-year-old, 17-pound Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua mix who has come a long way since arriving at Gerdy’s.
He is a sweet, affectionate little dog who bonds closely with his person. Once he trusts you, his funny, playful personality comes out. He is smart, house-trained and responds very well to training.

Most importantly, he is making progress. His leash walking has improved enormously and he is now quite good on walks. He can still bark at some dogs, but responds to redirection and continues to improve.

Coco’s real challenge is unfamiliar people in the home. When overwhelmed, his anxiety can escalate and he may bark continuously. He is not ready for new visitors. He is also still uncomfortable in the car and will need time to build confidence.

Coco needs an experienced foster or adopter who understands anxious dogs and is comfortable with a slow, steady approach. A quiet, predictable home, someone who is around much of the time and a consistent routine would be ideal. We also recommend that Coco be the only pet.

This is not a dog for a busy household or someone looking for an instant, effortless fit. It is, however, a dog who has already shown that he can change when given the right support.

Coco is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and housetrained.
We urgently need the right foster or adopter for Coco.
