QPIRG-McGill and the .mcgill are teaming up to present a very special, and very free, screening of CRIMINAL QU**RS (2016), a q***r abolitionist camp classic.

📍3475 rue Peel
🗓️ Thursday, February 12
🕰️ 6-7:30 pm
🍿 Free popcorn!

CRIMINAL QU**RS visualizes a radical trans/q***r struggle against the prison industrial complex and toward a world without walls. Remembering that prison breaks are both a theoretical and material practice of freedom, this film imagines what spaces might be opened up if crowbars, wigs, and metal files become tools for transformation.

will also be tabling and talking about the conditions of q***r/trans prisoners today.

ACCESSIBILITY INFO: Unfortunately, this venue is up one flight of stairs and therefore not wheelchair accessible. The movie will be presented in English with subtitles.

READ THE FULL STATEMENT IN OUR LINK IN BIO — QPIRG-McGill, CKUT, and the Tribune are deeply disappointed by SSMU’s decision to restructure Midnight Kitchen (MK) and fire all of its staff without notice. The SSMU Board of Directors failed to adequately communicate the perceived issues and to share its decision-making process with: the undergraduate student body; with PGSS, whose membership also pays student fees to Midnight Kitchen; and finally and most of all, with Midnight Kitchen themselves. We believe, in the strongest terms, that the SSMU has made a deeply misguided decision based on extrapolation from numbers on a spreadsheet.

The operations of a nonprofit, especially that of a kitchen that requires careful, experienced, logistical planning and difficult physical labour, cannot be fully conveyed through a budget alone.

SSMU’s decision to have the restructured iteration of MK serve non-vegan meals will make food less accessible to all students and will be far more costly.

Firing all of MK’s experienced staff, some of whom have worked there for nearly 5 years, will lead to a complete loss of expertise and sever any possibility of knowledge transfer. It is clear that this restructuring will entirely abandon MK’s long-held community ties and political mission of supporting food sovereignty, sustainability, and grassroots movements. SSMU’s unilateral decision will have deep, long-term effects on the student community and on student services, and this damage is likely to far outlast the terms of the current executives. We ask that SSMU engages in transparent and good faith dialogue to address this breach of trust.

On October 29th, in recognition of two years of Israel’s relentless genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, as well as National Disability Awareness Month in the so-called U.S. and Disability Employment Awarness Month in so-called Canada, In Pain and Insane invites you to a screening of the powerful, new, short documentary Severed.  Severed follows Mohamad Saleh, a Palestinian teenager from Gaza who lost his leg at only 12 years old, and has survived five Israeli military assaults. In those attacks, he lost his home, close family members, and best friends. Mohamad’s story is both deeply personal and emblematic of the thousands of Palestinians disabled by Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.

This is an opportunity to center Palestinian voices, deepen understanding of the genocide, and build solidarity between Palestinians and the larger disability justice community.
Together, we can take action on disability justice and Palestine.

ACCESSIBILITY INFO: There is an elevator in the building and there are two entrances. The entrance at 2100 Guy has one flight of stairs. For step-free access, use the entrance at 1625 de Maisonneuve Ouest. Buzz #0205 to be let through the automatic doors, then take the elevator up to the second floor. The door to the space can be opened by an automated button, and swings out. There is a paid parking lot beside our building, entrance on Guy. A list of other spaces downtown (Ville-Marie borough) reserved for people who have the blue-and-white parking permit can be found here: http://www.statdemtl.qc.ca/index.php?page_id=322&lang=en .

The space contains one gender-neutral, single occupancy, wheelchair accessible washroom. The door is not automated, it swings in and is pretty light.

This is a mask mandatory space, and there will be two large air purifiers and masks available.

There will be ASL interpretation between 6:30pm-8pm for the pre-screening introductions and post-screening discussions. This is a mask mandatory event, although for accessibility reasons, the ASL interpreter will not be wearing a mask and you may remove your mask when talking with a d/Deaf participant.
