On June 1, we celebrate Intergenerational Day, a reminder of the importance of bringing generations together through connection, conversation, and shared experiences.

At Literacy Quebec, we see the power of intergenerational learning through our Family Literacy Tool Kit, designed to help children, parents, grandparents, and caregivers connect through literacy activities, storytelling, and play.

This Intergenerational Day, explore ways to learn, connect, and grow together across generations. 💙

Every year, we survey our 11 full member organizations to better understand the impact of frontline literacy services for English-speaking communities across Quebec. 📚

From one-on-one tutoring and group learning to resource sharing and skills development, these organizations are creating meaningful change every day. This year’s portrait focuses on storytelling, impact, and the regional realities of the communities they serve.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Family literacy helps parents, children, and elders build literacy skills together through everyday activities that involve reading, writing, and numeracy.

Research shows that family literacy programs can have a greater impact than homework or smaller class sizes. These programs also support children’s social-emotional development while strengthening parents’ confidence in supporting learning at home.

This International Day of Families, explore our free Family Literacy Tool Kit for activities, tips, and resources to support literacy learning.

We’re proud to celebrate Gundie Robertson, a volunteer from RECLAIM Literacy, as our 2026 Freda Hudson Award recipient. 💙

For over 12 years, Gundie has supported learners with patience, care, and dedication. She helps build learners' confidence in reading and writing while making everyone feel seen. Now serving as Vice-President on RECLAIM Literacy's Board, she continues to make a lasting impact across her community.

As one learner shared, “She is the best teacher to me in the world.” Another said, “She is very patient with people. She takes her time...she is calm.”

Gundie’s impact is deeply felt by everyone around her, from her role as a tutor to a leader. Each Monday, she says, “This is one of the best parts of my week!” A sentiment shared by many at RECLAIM.
