MCM - Solutions Justes page of the MCM, downtown community organization in Montreal, Canada. Stay tuned for more inspiring stories and updates! Located in the beautiful St.

We are delighted to unveil an exciting new initiative at MCM that will bring our diverse range of programs into the spotlight! Each few months, we will feature one of our innovative programs, showcasing its transformative impact and the meaningful change it creates in the community. This fresh approach allows us to celebrate the unique contributions of each MCM program and the significant strides being made. For the remainder of the year, our focus will be on our legal clinic, Just Solutions. This vital program provides essential legal information to individuals with precarious statuses, helping them navigate the complexities of the legal system. Just Solutions is a highly valued resource that supports clients in understanding their rights and options, acting as a reliable ally in their journey toward a more just and inclusive community. Looking ahead to next year, we will spotlight both the Ma'an Program and Camp Cosmos. The Ma'an Program continues its incredible work in bridging diverse communities across Montreal, while Camp Cosmos brings together children from various backgrounds to build lasting connections and foster a sense of community. Montreal City Mission (MCM) is a downtown community organization that’s been finding long-term solutions to problems of poverty and social exclusion since 1910. James Church on St. Catherine Street, MCM helps children from low-income families, children with special needs, refugees, and immigrants in Montreal. MCM helps break their isolation and ease their integration through three crucial programs:

- A legal information clinic that helps disadvantaged groups defend and understand their rights (refugees, elderly tenants, homeless or poorly housed people).

- An affordable summer camp that provides children with special needs and children of single-parent, immigrant, refugee, Aboriginal, and low-income families, with a safe, structured, and fun place to spend their summer.

- A mobile legal clinic that defends vulnerable senior citizens’ rights.

- The acronym Ma'an stands for the MCM Arab Action Network. Ma'an also means togetherness in Arabic. This Dual meaning sums up the aim of the MCM Ma'an's initiative which is to build bridges between members of diverse communities on the island of Montreal.

What a wonderful weekend event at Cedar Park on September 19, with activities for every age group - music, yoga, drumming, and baking with MCM staffers Anwar and Arwa!

The kids - and some of their parents! - really got into the groove, pounding the dough into shape and adding the ingredients for delicious za’atar managish that were enjoyed by everyone.

On a déjà hâte à l'année prochaine!

Those words capture beautifully the spirit of vivre-ensemble that was so present on St. James Square last Sunday, when Montreal City Mission and Riverside United Church hosted a community gathering to mark Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21) and World Refugee Day (June 20).

It was pouring rain and the organizers were fretting! Then less than an hour before the event - the sky cleared and the sun came out - and we could proceed with the outdoor festivities!

The afternoon began with a welcome to the land offered by Camp Cosmos Board member and member of the Mohawk community, Lauren Tzimopolous. Lauren reminded us that, whether born in Canada or newcomers to this country, we are all guests on Indigenous land. Her words invited us to reflect on hospitality not simply as welcoming others, but as recognizing our shared responsibilities to the lands we inhabit and to one another.

And then the fashion - but it was not a fashion show in the traditional sense. Rather, guests were invited to come dressed in clothing that reflected their cultural heritage and identity - and they responded in abundance. The square became a living tapestry of cultures, colours, stories, and traditions. More than 100 people registered for the event, while many more passers-by stopped along Sainte-Catherine Street to watch, applaud, and, in some cases, join in the Nigerian and Palestinian dancing.

In a world often marked by division and fear of difference, the afternoon offered a glimpse of something else - people gathering across cultures, faiths, languages, and histories; celebrating one another's beauty; sharing food, music, and laughter; and discovering that our diversity is not a barrier to community but one of its greatest gifts.

Our appreciation as well to the United Church Kelley Trust Fund and the Government of Canada for their support.

And last but not least - a heartfelt thank you to MCM staffers Anwar Alhjooj and Arwa Nofal for organizing and hosting this wonderful event!
