Join us Monday, Feb. 24, in Ottawa or online for a panel discussion on how to address the intersecting affordability and climate crises as a new U.S. administration threatens punishing tariffs on Canadian exports.

Increasing costs from extreme weather events, uncertainty about energy and supply chains and added pressure on already inadequate infrastructure and housing mean new, comprehensive solutions are needed to keep Canadians safe.

In a discussion moderated by our own Jennifer Ditchburn, panelists Tyler Meredith, Kathleen Monk, and Karen Restoule will talk about how to protect households from the rising cost of living, how to minimize the impacts of extreme weather events and how to keep affordable food on the table.

📢 Bienvenue à Valentin Pautonnier, le nouveau membre de l’équipe de l’IRPP !

Valentin nous rejoint en tant que stagiaire en recherche dont le travail porte sur la géographie électorale, les clivages politiques entre milieux ruraux et urbains, ainsi que sur l’impact des conditions économiques sur le vote. Il est actuellement doctorant à l’Université de Montréal et fellow au Consortium on Analytics for Data-Driven Decision-Making de l’Université McGill. Il a également mené des recherches au Survey Research Center de l’Université de Princeton.

Avec une formation académique de Sciences Po Grenoble et de l’Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Valentin est spécialisé dans les méthodes d’enquête et le comportement politique. Son expertise viendra enrichir nos connaissances des principales dynamiques politiques et économiques - des perspectives que nous avons hâte de découvrir !

📢 Meet Valentin Pautonnier, the newest addition to the IRPP team!

Valentin joins us as an intern researcher whose work explores electoral geography, rural-urban political divides, and how economic conditions shape voting behavior. Currently a PhD candidate at Université de Montréal and a fellow at McGill University’s Consortium on Analytics for Data-Driven Decision-Making, he has also conducted research at Princeton University’s Survey Research Center.

With academic training from Sciences Po Grenoble and Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Valentin specializes in survey methods and political behavior. His expertise will help strengthen our understanding of key political and economic dynamics—insights we’re eager to learn from!

As a journalist with over 20 years of experience, she has covered financial, economic, and public policy news at La Tribune, Les Affaires, L’Actualité, La Presse, and more. She also played a key role in launching the Quebec platform of The Conversation Canada, where she was an editor.
