𝟓𝟎+ 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭

Youth Media Alliance has joined a coalition of more than 50 organizations from across Canada’s audiovisual sector in an open letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney and Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture Marc Miller.

Our message is clear: foreign streaming services must continue to make meaningful, predictable and enforceable contributions to the creation of Canadian content.

As the federal government moves forward with new policy directions for online streaming, this collective effort highlights the importance of maintaining mechanisms that sustainably support Canada’s cultural ecosystem and our ability to tell and share our stories, including stories created for young audiences.

The Youth Media Alliance (YMA) wishes to acknowledge Mathieu Lacombe’s commitment to Québec’s cultural sector and the youth media industry.

After eight years as a Member of the National Assembly and Minister, Mathieu Lacombe announced that he will not seek another term in the next election. He will, however, continue in his current role until the end of his mandate.

Minister of Culture and Communications since 2022, he has distinguished himself through his strong engagement with the cultural community and his understanding of the challenges facing creative industries, particularly the youth audiovisual sector.

YMA thanks Mathieu Lacombe for his openness, support, and constructive dialogue with our organization and our members. His commitment has contributed to advancing conversations around the essential role of content created for children and youth within our cultural ecosystem.

We wish him all the best for the next chapter of his journey.
