McGill Students for UNICEF

McGill Students for UNICEF McGill Students for UNICEF is a student run organization McGill Students for UNICEF is a campus club at McGill that works in collaboration with UNICEF Canada.

As a club, we are grounded in the belief that young minds like ours can create simple yet effective solutions to help address issues related to the plight of children all across the world. We support UNICEF Canada to provide programs and advocacy work for children all over the world by raising funds and holding events that garner involvement and contributions from the McGill and Montreal community

. During emergencies, reaching vulnerable children is often the most challenging and difficult task. Most children do not survive due to insufficiency or absence of aid – not as a direct result of the tragedy. While UNICEF is on the ground in areas affected by disaster, saving and safeguarding children and their families, and helping them re-establish their lives; McGill Students for UNICEF dedicates itself to raising money for the emergency funds. We hold weekly meetings every Thursday at 7pm on Microsoft Teams and everyone is welcome to drop in and chat and get involved!

On March 30th, UNICEF McGill partnered with the Hawa Initiative for a special networking evening, bringing together students, professionals, and changemakers united by one goal: making a difference for children in Lebanon.

The evening featured brief presentations from both organizations about our ongoing work, followed by an interactive networking session where attendees connected with fellow participants to explore opportunities and the diverse ways to get involved in the development space.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible speakers who shared their insights and experiences: Patrick Robitaille, Jude Kadri, Elie Wehbe, Abby Haddad, and Maya and Yara Mahfouz. Thank you to the Hawa Initiative team for making this collaboration possible. And to everyone who showed up, connected, and committed to being part of the solution, we are so grateful.

Why do we still need International Women’s Day?

Because around the world, girls still face unequal access to education, economic opportunities, healthcare, and safety.

Because gender equality remains unfinished work.

And because raising awareness, advocating for change, and supporting girls’ leadership helps build a more equitable future for everyone.

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day— a moment to recognize the achievements, resilience, and leadership of women and girls around the world.

But celebration must also come with action. Across the globe, millions of girls still face barriers to education, safety, and opportunity.

This year’s theme reminds us: Rights. Justice. Action. For all women and girls.

Millions of children face hunger, disease, and the collapse of their education system as conflict continues to devastate communities. Schools lie in ruins, healthcare systems are overwhelmed, and families struggle to access even the most basic necessities.

Yet hope persists. Through nutrition programs, vaccinations, clean water initiatives, and emergency education support, UNICEF and its partners are working tirelessly to protect and restore children’s rights across Yemen.
