Maison de l'amitié Student Residence

Maison de l'amitié Student Residence The Maison de l'amitié Residence welcomes Christian students and those students who respect the Christian faith.

The Student Residence of the Maison de l’amitié seeks to provide lodging for young people who wish to experience community living and social action in a Christian and Peace church context. The Maison de l’amitié is a work of the Mennonite church in Montreal, and reflects the following principles:

We are called to be agents of God’s love in a broken world. We are called to be a community of reconc

iliation and mutual service, where those seeking and those giving help all find healing and wholeness. We are called to be peacemakers, working non-violently for justice in our community.

Our Story

La Maison de l’amitié was built as a Jewish Peretz school in the 1930s. Until recently, the area was dominated by the Portuguese community. The now gentrified neighbourhood, which is a trendy blend of homes and commercial establishments, still bears traces of the numerous immigrant groups that have passed through. We are within walking distance of UQAM, McGill, downtown and the mountain.

The House of Friendship was bought by Mennonites—members of a Historic Peace Church—in 1973 to serve as a basis for outreach into Montreal. It subsequently housed a daycare, a prison ministry and a refugee shelter, along with various other programs, as well as serving as an ongoing meeting place for the local Anglophone Mennonite congregation. Our approach to community living is based on a Mennonite understanding of Christian principles.
