➡️Êtes-vous un·e sage-femme autorisé·e ou autochtone exerçant au Canada? Nous avons besoin de votre avis pour une étude sur l'attitude des sages-femmes à l'égard de l'avortement.

Cette étude vise à mieux comprendre les facteurs qui influencent l'attitude des sages-femmes à l'égard des services d'avortement, notamment:

- si les sages-femmes souhaiteraient fournir elles-mêmes ou eux-mêmes ces services
- si elles ou ils soutiendraient d'autres sages-femmes qui fournissent ces services mais ne souhaitent pas les fournir elles-mêmes ou eux-mêmes
- ou si elles ou ils s'opposent à l'inclusion des services d'avortement dans le travail des sages-femmes.

➡️Pourquoi participer? Faites entendre votre voix. Contribuez à une recherche importante qui pourrait éclairer les décisions futures concernant le champ d'exercice.

➡️En quoi cela consiste-t-il? Sondage en ligne anonyme de 15 à 20 minutes

➡️Critères d'admissibilité: Vous êtes une sage-femme autorisé·e ou autochtone qui a exercé au Canada au cours des deux dernières années

➡️Are you a registered or Indigenous midwife practicing in Canada? We need your input for a research study on midwives’ attitudes about abortion provision.

This study aims to generate a nuanced understanding of the factors that influence midwives‘ attitudes towards abortion services, including:
- whether midwives would want to provide services themselves
- whether they would support other midwives to provide services but are not interested in being providers
- or whether they are opposed to the inclusion of abortion services in midwifery work

➡️Why participate? Have your voice heard. Contribute to important research that could inform future decisions about scope of practice.

➡️What’s involved? 15–20 minute anonymous online survey

➡️Eligibility criteria: You are a registered or Indigenous midwife who has practiced in Canada within the last 2 years

May 5th is Red Dress Day, a time to honour and remember Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people. Nothing can undo the harm caused or bring back the lives lost, but we can work to end the cycle of violence, including and especially within health systems.

We stand solidarity with Indigenous members and partners like the National Council of Indigenous Midwives to combat anti-Indigenous racism, address systemic violence, and support the restoration of community-centred care and birth in line with the MMIWG Calls for Justice.

Le 5 mai est la Journée de la robe rouge, un moment pour honorer et commémorer les femmes, les filles et les personnes 2ELGBTQQIA+ autochtones disparues et assassinées. Rien ne peut effacer le mal causé ni ramener celles et ceux que nous avons perdu, mais nous pouvons agir pour mettre fin au cycle de violence, y compris et surtout au sein des systems de santé.

Nous demeurons engagé·e·s à travailler en solidarité avec les membres autochtones et des partenaires comme le National Council of Indigenous Midwives afin de lutter contre le racisme anti-autochtone, de s’attaquer à la violence systémique et de soutenir le rétablissement de soins et de naissances ancrés dans les communautés, conformément aux Appels à la justice de l’Enquête nationale sur les FFADA.

Bill S-228, currently in its third reading, would criminalize forced and coerced sterilization. The crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and gender-diverse people exists along the same continuum of violence.

👉🏽 Responsibility to act lies with colonial institutions.

Today, we honour those lost, those harmed, and those fighting to restore safety to our sisters and our communities. We call on all levels of government to fully implement the 231 MMIWG Calls for Justice and on the Canadian government to pass Bill S-228.

“Sterilization without consent does not occur in isolation. It is enabled by the conditions that shape women's health and constrain meaningful consent.

This bill is an important step toward establishing a clear legal response, but criminalizing does not eliminate the system that produces the harm. Like the umbilical cord teaching, we need to shift the burden of responsibility to those with the capacity to act.”
