Makivvik Justice Department Contact information, map and directions, contact form, opening hours, services, ratings, photos, videos and announcements from Makivvik Justice Department, Nonprofit Organization, 7405 Route Transcanadienne, Suite 320, Montreal, QC.

The Makivvik Justice Department helps administer justice using culturally adapted approaches which focus primarily on healing individuals, families, and the community, while also dealing with the underlying causes of crime. Para-judicial workers, local justice committees, correctional liaison agents and Gladue writers offer direct services to Nunavimmiut at various stages of the justice and correc

tional process. The departments management team, namely, the Director, Assistant Director, the Justice Committee Program Manager, the Para-Judicial Program Manager, the Correctional Services Program Manager, and the Project Managers, collaborate very closely with the front-line workers to offer support with their day-to-day responsibilities. The management team would not be complete without the Justice Initiatives Coordinator, who’s role is to bring forth innovative ways to implement new programs that will help Nunavimmiut get through the difficult judicial process.

Last week in Kuujjuaq, Makivvik hosted a regional workshop to combat human trafficking. We’d like to acknowledge the participants’ presence, engagement, and willingness to share their perspectives and help create a safe and meaningful space for honest and productive dialogue. This first Anti-Human Trafficking workshop was only the beginning of a journey and we are committed to continuing our efforts to create spaces for strong dialogue and collaboration between individuals, families, and organizations; to identify solutions to the issues being faced; and to work together towards lasting and meaningful change for Nunavimmiut, both in Nunavik and in the South.

Makivvik also wishes to thank all partners, organizations who contributed to the workshop, speakers, Elders, community members, frontline workers, and contributors whose collaboration made this workshop possible. Nakurmiik, and we look forward to moving forward together.

The Elder would support healing, cultural connection, and community-grounded dialogue through circles held once or twice a week.

Because of the frequency of these sessions, the position requires the Elder to be based in the south.
