🟣✊🏾✊🏿Two femicides in 48 hours: Montréal is grieving and we must pay attention
This week, two women, Leakkhena Seng and Kerline Jean were killed in acts of conjugal violence. These tragedies are not isolated incidents. They are part of a pattern that continues to harm women, girls, and gender‑diverse people across Québec.
Conjugal violence is not “a private matter.” It is a systemic issue rooted in power, control, and silence. And as one advocate said in an article by Laurent Lavoie for le Journal de Montréal : “Sometimes, overtime, we forget that you can die from conjugal violence.”(Annick Brazeau)
At BCRC’s Legal Project, we stand with survivors and communities affected by gender‑based violence. We encourage everyone to:
•Learn the signs of coercive control
•Check in on friends and family
•Share resources
•Believe survivors when they speak
