To conclude our Kizuna Workshop Series, NAJC-QC warmly invites you to an Intergenerational Tea Time on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 3:00–5:00 PM at the JCCCM Main Hall (8155 rue Rousselot). Join us for a cozy afternoon of tea, Japanese snacks, and meaningful conversation as community members of all ages come together to connect through gentle ice-breakers, cross-generational dialogue, and open social time. The afternoon will also feature a special presentation by Jeff Chiba Stearns (author, illustrator, filmmaker, and educator from Vancouver), who will share themes from his graphic novels On Being Yukiko, Tomey, and Ojiichan’s Dragon. His talk, “Japanese Canadian History: Why Now?”, explores how these stories illuminate the history and identity of Japanese Canadians and how they are being used to educate a new generation across Canada. Come share tea, stories, and community as we celebrate connection across generations.

A historic day for Quebec
This weekend, we unveiled the Farnham Nikkei Memorial, honouring the hundreds of Japanese Canadians who were relocated to Farnham, Quebec, after the Second World War. This monument stands as a lasting reminder of resilience, displacement, and the rebuilding of community far from home, an important but little known part of Quebec’s history.

Heartfelt thanks to whose tireless dedication made this project possible, to , the entire NAJC-QC team, and to all the organizations .rpaq and partners .no.ato who supported this initiative, including the City of Farnham for helping bring this memorial to life.

To remember is work — the kind that keeps a people alive.

【GEI : ART Symposium 2025 Submission of Interest now open! 】(日本語は下をご覧下さい)
We are welcoming artists of Japanese descent in Canada of all artistic practices, regions, generations, and career stages to build a solid national arts community!
The inaugural GEI : ART Symposium was held at the Japanese-inspired Esquimalt Gorge pavilion in 2022. Close to 100 artists came together to celebrate a homecoming to the west coast, and to recognize legacy artists – trailblazers who have set the stage for future generations.
In 2025, we will reignite the spirit of the first symposium. Recognizing the forced dispersal of ancestors who had to relocate east of the Rockies, this year’s symposium will take place at the historically significant Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto.

This artist-run event looks to:
-Create a solid network of artists across the country
-Share our achievements and works in progress
-Inspire and support cross-pollination between artists

Priority will be given to artists who were not able to attend the first GEI : ART Symposium, those who have a current work in progress or one ready for sharing, and those who are selected to contribute to the symposium content.
Accommodations will be reserved on participants’ behalf; however, participants are responsible for the cost. There is limited support available for participants who identify a need for financial or other support to attend.
A registration fee of $150 will be due upon confirmation of participation.
For more information, and to submit an expression of interest, visit: https://najc.ca/gei2025/
Submissions accepted until May 31, 2025.
