Our scholars wrapped up their final leadership sessions of the year last week.

It was wonderful to see the growth and passion for learning from our scholars. The 2024 scholars celebrated the term with a gift exchange, and the 2025 scholars enjoyed the snowfall, adding to the festive mood.

As we head into exam season, we wish everyone the best of luck. Enjoy a restful and joyful holiday season.

✨ Shaping Culture from Within

On November 5th, we gathered at Maison du développement durable for a powerful panel, moderated by André‑Yanne Parent.

Our guest speakers, Amélie Laframboise, Émilie Laguerre, and Louis Couillard, unpacked the tension between continuity and disruption by sharing tactics for mobilizing internal influence, building coalitions, and navigating resistance.

Our scholars from three cohorts and finalists came with a curious mind and asked outstanding questions.

Yesterday, we gathered in the Scholars Lounge to celebrate our Fall Class of 2025. The afternoon was filled with laughter, joy, and heartfelt reflections as we honoured this year’s graduating scholars. Together, we scrapbooked and reminisced about the special memories and milestones from the past few years.

Last week, we gathered at the McGill Faculty Club to celebrate the newest McCall MacBain Scholars, Finalists, and Regional Award Recipients alongside alumni, volunteers, mentors, and McGill Deans. 🌟

Ka'nahsohon Kevin Deer, our Elder in Residence, and Marcy McCall MacBain offered words of welcome, setting a warm and inspiring tone for the evening. With over 100 guests in attendance, the reception was a wonderful opportunity to connect, celebrate, and reflect on the growing impact of the McCall MacBain Scholarship community.

This summer, McCall MacBain Scholars Emma Edney (2024) and Ivana Okaro (2024) put their passions into action in different ways.

⚖️ Emma worked as a 1L summer student at Calgary Legal Guidance, gaining hands-on experience with clients and the Community Court program, which connects vulnerable Calgarians to essential resources and services.

💇‍♀️ Ivana partnered with Hope & Cope to expand Crowned by Ivana, offering free wig-creation services, workshops, and resources that support people experiencing medical hair loss with confidence and care.

Whether through law or community care, Emma and Ivana dedicated their summers to building confidence, access, and support for others. 💡💜

This summer, our scholars explored new horizons and grew their skills across the globe. Thanks in part to scholarship-funded summer opportunities, we encourage scholars to step outside their comfort zones and gain real-world experience!

🎭 Emma Yee (2024) interned with Opera 5, performing in Elegies, assistant stage managing Come Closer, and shadowing social media and production management—gaining confidence in her artistic vision and leadership.

🌍 Margaret Mackenzie (2024) spent three months in Zambia with VIDEA's Indigenous Youth Internship Program, teaching, coaching volleyball, learning Tumbuka, and building meaningful cross-cultural connections that will inspire her future work in education.
