🎉 A warm welcome to our newest scholars, finalists, and regional award recipients!

On September 24th, we gathered at the McGill Faculty Club for the annual McCall MacBain Scholarships Welcome Reception. With remarks from Elder-in-Residence Kanahsohon Kevin Deer, Provost and Executive Vice-President Angela Campbell, and co-founders Marcy and John McCall MacBain, the evening marked the start of an exciting journey ahead.

Recipients also had the chance to meet McGill faculty, as well as current scholars, alumni, board members, volunteers, and staff. The reception supported new students in building connections that will support them throughout their time at McGill.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and we wish you all a wonderful term!

🌿 From Quebec City to Wendake, our scholars spent the day learning through history, culture, food, and storytelling.

Highlights included a visit to Musée de la civilisation, a first taste of poutine at Ashton,
meaningful time at Musée huron-wendat, and a storytelling experience rooted in Wendat oral traditions.

A fireside conversation with Indigenous leader, former Band Council Chief, and entrepreneur Sébastien Desnoyers Picard offered insights on leadership, entrepreneurship, tourism, and community development.

We ended the day around the table at Restaurant La Traite, reflecting on how food can carry cultural pride, sustainability, heritage preservation, and revitalization.

A new space for connection, collaboration, and community ✨
Since opening in 2022, McCall MacBain House has been a place where scholars come together to learn, exchange ideas, study, and build community.
This year, we were excited to open the third floor of the House, created in collaboration with Provencher_Roy.
The new space features meeting rooms,
videoconferencing booths, a kitchen, and a main lounge that can comfortably accommodate 120 people. Built with connection and collaboration in mind, it will be a home for scholars throughout their time at McGill University.
As we welcome our sixth cohort of McCall MacBain Scholars, we look forward to seeing the conversations, ideas, collaborations, and memories that will take shape in this new space. 🏡

Choose people who know you well, have seen your growth, and speak to your academic work or community impact.

Ask early, share your goals, give them plenty of time, and don’t forget to say thank you!

International applicants - there's still time to apply for the 2027 McCall MacBain Scholarships at McGill University.

🌍 Up to 30 full scholarships and 100 awards are available for students planning to pursue an eligible master's or professional program at McGill.

📅 Application deadline: August 19, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time for international applicants who have not studied in Canada or the United States.

Don't wait until the last minute! Submit your application and make sure your two recommendation forms are also submitted before the deadline.

The Faculty offers Master of Arts (MA), Master of Arts Teaching and Learning (MATL), Master of Education (MEd), and Master of Science (MSc) degrees.

🎓 This session will also feature 2025 McCall MacBain Scholar Rachel Cluett, a University of Manitoba graduate pursuing an MSc in School/Applied Child Psychology at McGill.

🎓️ This May, more than 50 alumni from five McCall MacBain Scholar cohorts gathered in Montreal for our inaugural Alumni Reunion. It was a meaningful chance to reconnect, share stories, and learn from one another. The program featured conversations on leadership and reconciliation, alumni-led sessions, skill-building and a collective visioning workshop.
