Rojava, in Northeast Syria, home to one of the world's most remarkable anti-authoritarian revolutions, is in URGENT need of solidarity and collective support. In a matter of weeks, by early February, 170,000 people were estimated to have been internally displaced after thousands of Syrian government troops invaded and seized 80% of Rojava's autonomous region.
The women's revolution of Rojava – which has included the development of women's communes, women's academies, women's houses in neighbourhoods, women's participation and fifty-fifty representational guarantees in directly democratic council-systems, and women-only militias – is being undermined by the patriarchal and state violence of Islamist fascists that make up the Syrian government. These fascist forces have been directing their violence towards humiliating symbols of women's empowerment in the territories they have seized. Despite a recent ceasefire, the siege on Rojava's Kobane city continues. As war intensifies in the Middle East, we are extending our solidarity to revolutionaries across the world in their fight against fascism, and in their continued struggle for woman, life, and freedom.
Join us Sunday, March 15th, 7PM, at Bar Milton-Parc for an event with the Kurdish Cultural Community of Montreal. The band Nubar will play some traditional Kurdish music. Funds raised will go to The Foundation of Free Women in Syria that operates out of Rojava.
We recommend people who do not know about Rojava, take some time to do some research and learn about the example that they can set for us here in our neighbourhood movements against the state, patriarchy, and capitalism, and the example they have set for people in places like Iran who continue to rise up for their freedom. Against the destruction of human life and freedom! Against all wars except the grassroots war against domination!
