🎨♻️ CREATIVITY, LEARNING & RECYCLING IN CANDIAC! ♻️🎨
The Genie in a Bottle Project was delighted to continue its ongoing partnership with St. Lawrence Elementary School in Ville de Candiac, helping students celebrate Earth Day through creativity, environmental education, and hands-on learning.
Throughout the school, students discovered that recyclable materials are more than just items destined for the recycling bin—they are opportunities to learn, imagine, and create.
Using recyclable materials supplied by the Genie in a Bottle Project, students transformed everyday objects into imaginative works of art while learning how even small actions can make a positive impact on our environment.
The Grade 3 students designed and built their own robots using plastic beverage bottles and bottle caps, proving that creativity has no limits when sustainability is part of the lesson.
Another class explored the fascinating world of turtles during a walk along the Rivière de la Tortue, followed by a reading of Turtles in Girdles. Inspired by what they had learned, each student created a unique creature from recycled corks whose special mission was to help protect the Earth.
Many other creative recycling projects were completed throughout the school, allowing students to combine imagination with environmental stewardship in fun and meaningful ways.
♻️ Learning Through Action
On May 23, the Genie in a Bottle Project was proud to support the school's first-ever bottle drive, organized to raise funds for the school's garden program and the Earth Saviours students, who lead environmental initiatives within the school.
For a first-time event, the bottle drive was an outstanding success, raising $878.40.
The Genie in a Bottle Project was pleased to contribute an additional $200.00 toward the fundraising effort while also providing guidance, collection resources, logistical support, and ensuring that every recyclable item reached its appropriate recycling partner.
Students, staff, parents, and volunteers were able to see firsthand how their collective efforts created a meaningful environmental impact.
♻️ Together, we successfully kept the following materials out of landfill:
🥤 4,656 aluminum cans
🧴 673 plastic bottles
🍺 322 beer bottles
🍷 135 wine bottles
🥫 55 lbs of aluminum can tabs
Every recyclable item collected helps conserve natural resources, reduce waste, and build a healthier planet for future generations.
The Genie in a Bottle Project looks forward to continuing its partnership with the students and staff of St. Lawrence Elementary School for many years to come.
Teaching the next generation that every action matters is at the heart of our mission.
