This year several members finally finished long-term projects. Anna's apple core pattern charm quilt, designed with African fabrics, was 16 years in the making. She finished it in memory of her late brother-in-law Sean Marrett. Barb M. finished her star quilt, which she had intended to complete years ago. Linda finished a quilt made with Hawaiian fabrics that she started four years ago. The fabrics were leftovers from some pillows and other decorative items she made for her daughter's home. And Mary S. finished a Courtepointe Quebec mystery quilt. It has four bands of assorted blocks in a single colour, and she quilted it using her favourite Melissa Marginet star pattern.

A lot of WEQ members have been making bags of various shapes and sizes this year. Barb M. made this Mondo bag in autumn colours using jellyrolls. She also made a selection of zippered bags in various shapes and colours, while Denise sewed a large red and brown/black bag using leftover fabric.

Nathalie was in Vancouver all winter so she wasn’t able to quilt, but she did make this adorable doll, which she donated to one of the community organizations we assist.

Here are a couple more quilts inspired by the idea of the view from a window. Members' excuses for not making a window quilt were also imaginative.
Roz created a beautifully shaped church window with a fabric that looked like tiny bits of stained-glass. Exquisite.
Barbara S. made a scene of a man on horseback in a southern desert setting. A white window frame was surrounded by a Mexican style pattern “wallpaper”.

This year's challenge was to make a quilt or quilted wall-hanging that resembles a window, looking out onto something. The results were quite imaginative.
Mary’s quilt showed the back of her real-life plush dog, Bob, who has a permanent place looking out of her front window. You can see the window sill, the green couch, the window frame and a simple exterior.
Linda used the stained-glass technique, updated with the use of fusible black webbing, to create the window panes. Is it here or is it Hawaii? The window frame was made using the Attic Windows style.
Barbara M. also used the Attic Windows technique and filled the windows with flowers and 3D animals, not only squirrels, cardinals and raccoons that you’re likely to see out her window, but also a bald eagle. Why not?
Janice P. started with a panel showing a beach scene reminiscent of Nova Scotia and added shells, rocks and even a crab. The framing came from a pattern and she added real curtains with tie backs.
More later.
