27 March 1935 Charlie Merryfield leading West Monkton's team with best bud Clare Webber in the net, and Charlie's nephews Thomas and Frank Howes, the Bettger and Golightly brothers along with W Smith came up short for their run for the Ontario Rural Hockey Association's Johannes Sheild.

O.R.H.A. Consolation Series Captured by Ayr Victorias Galt, March 26 (CP).-Ayr Victorias won the O.R.H.A. consolation series and the Johannes Shield tonight when they defeated West Monkton. runners-up in the Perth circuit. 13 to 4. The losers had not been on ice for a month and showed the lack of practice and condition. For the first thirty minutes, the game was interesting, but then Ayr cut loose and it was a case of how many. Wilson, with five goals and six assists, and Woolner, with three goals and two assists, led the scoring parade. The teams: Ayr-Goal, Shaw; defense, Welsh, A. Plumstead: centre, Woolner: wings, G. Pitcher, Wilson: subs., H. Pitcher, Lillico, H. Plumstead. West Monkton-Goal, Clare Weber: defense, Thomas Howes, Lloyd Bettger; centre, George Bettger: wings, Frank Howes, S.
