Statement by MNECA President James MacArthur on the Passing of Robert K. Irving
The Moncton Northeast Construction Association joins communities across our region in honouring the life and legacy of Robert K. Irving, Co-Chief Executive Officer of J.D. Irving, Limited.
Mr. Irving’s impact on this region is difficult to overstate. Through his leadership, vision, and long-term commitment, he helped shape not only a remarkable enterprise, but also the economic strength and confidence of Atlantic Canada. Nearly five decades ago, he helped establish J.D. Irving’s presence in Moncton—an investment that helped demonstrate what could be built here, and what this region could achieve.
Those who had the opportunity to work with or alongside him knew that his leadership was defined not just by results, but by how he carried himself. He led with humility, quiet strength, and a genuine respect for people. There was a deep sense of responsibility in the way he approached both business and community—always grounded, always thoughtful, and always focused on building for the long term.
He was also a devoted family man and a proud champion of this region. His belief in people, in hard work, and in shared progress left a lasting impression on those around him, and helped shape a generation of business and community leaders.
On behalf of our membership, I extend my sincere condolences to the Irving family who are feeling this tremendous loss. We also extend our sympathies to all those at J.D. Irving, Limited during this difficult time.
Robert K. Irving leaves behind a legacy that will be felt for generations—in the businesses he helped guide, the communities he strengthened, and in the enduring belief he instilled in what this region can achieve.
