GardaWorld is the reason our 911 Ride exists and they continue to show their support to our first responders, our communities by continuing with efforts like this.
In February 2026, GardaWorld had discussions with Detective Corporal Karen Harling of the Truro Police Service about providing a de-commissioned GardaWorld Armoured truck for the price of a Toonie plus taxes. Harling presented to Chief David MacNeil whom gladly accepted the offer, and we proceeded with the initiative.
Over the following months, Chase Coffin, Regional Fleet Supervisor of GardaWorld, began an extensive overhaul of the vehicle’s interior. This included removing our equipment, painting and replacing many parts and other materials from other decommissioned armoured trucks.
Chase collaborates with Detective Corporal Karen Harling to provide additional parts to complete the vehicle.
In April 2026, we handed over the vehicle for its next stage of completion. Detective Sergeant Robert John Hunka began redoing the exterior and building out the interior for the needs of the Regional Tactical Support Team which includes Stellarton and Westville Police Services.
Each year, we sadly lose 6-7 police officers in Canada due to line-of-duty deaths. This year, we have already met this number. These losses deeply affect families, communities and police departments across the country. Since 2015, the Atlantic 911 Ride, GardaWorld and its sponsors have honoured 12 fallen officers and supported their families. This year, we will be honouring two officers from the Quebec Region.
This will be our fourth armoured vehicle we have provided, supporting our police and their communities. We have previously provided one to the Charlottetown Police Service, Miramichi Police Force and the Amherst Police Department.
At GardaWorld, we have established a strong partnership with police departments in the Maritimes and abroad through the 911 Ride. We are proud to be able to provide a valuable resource that equips our front-line officers with the tools they need to ensure public safety, including their own and the communities they serve.
This vehicle will assist the Regional Tactical Support Team in responding to high-risk incidents while providing enhanced protection for officers and members of the public. The armoured vehicle will also serve as a mobile command post, enabling police personnel to effectively coordinate operations and communications during major incidents, emergencies and planned events.
