Hey everyone!
I know it's been a while since I've posted, and to be honest, I’ve struggled to find the excitement to share updates this season. After donating 385 tickets last year, it’s been tough only being able to give away 16 this year.
At the start of the season, I put a call out for sponsors but didn’t quite get the support I was hoping for. I made the decision not to pour too much of my own money into it again as there were other causes I wanted to help this year. That being said, a friend I've met through junior hockey reached out with a personal donation, so I matched it, and together we were able to send 4 families to their first ever hockey game this season.
I'm attaching a photo of a family that attended a game in January. This one was special because they reached out to me after hearing about Al's Pals from friends who attended a game last year and recommended they contact me because they had such a great time. That kind of word-of-mouth is what makes this all worthwhile, knowing the experience meant enough for someone to share it with others.
Last week, I got a few messages saying an Irving-owned company had "stolen" my idea after they brought 150 newcomers to a Wildcats game. Some of the messages poked fun at the fact that the Wildcats publicly acknowledged them multiple times throughout the night, while my group of 156 in November 2023 went without a mention. The truth is, seeing other people or businesses step up to give more people the chance to experience hockey is exactly what I hoped would happen from all the time, effort, and money I put into this last season. This has never been about me, or any business name, it's about getting more people to experience our game and feel welcomed into our community. That’s what truly matters.
