I really don't know what I am going to say here, but I do know it is going to be angry, it's going to be a rant, and if you don't like profanity probably don't read any further. Consider this your trigger warning. Two days ago I wrote what I hope was an appropriately fitting piece about the tragedy in Tumbler Ridge. Since then the attacks on the Transgender community, and me personally in my DM's have been nonstop. I've got things to say, and as I stated above it's not going to be pretty.

First, let's talk about mental illness. Gender dysphoria is itself not a mental illness, even though it is in the DSM5. It is simply an incongruence between one's s*x assigned at birth and their gender. There is nothing psychiatric about it. There is no “cure” for gender dysphoria, but there is treatment. For most people with GD hormone replacement therapy will relieve a lot if not most GD. Some of us need to go further. However, the anti-trans bigots want to throw us all into conversion therapy, which is little more than a form of torture that does not work. In other words these dumb f***s want to throw us all into a situation where su***de is the only way out. The problem is that they know this, it is a deliberate attempt to get rid of us.

Speaking of su***de, there is a number being tossed around by these worthless pieces of s**t, it is 41%. It is the number is from a survey of trans people in the US where one question was if you had thought about or attempted su***de in the last year? This is actually an useless statistic for two reasons. One the survey was taken at the end of 2020. I think we can all remember what happened that year. The su***de numbers for almost all demographics went up that year. The other is that there is no way of knowing the true number since dead people don't fill out surveys.

There is also the point that most trans people don't commit su***de because they are trans, but because of these s**ts who are spreading disinformation and misinformation about trans people, as well as not being accepted by family and friends, as well as not feeling they can come out to family. For those who are supported the su***de rate is actually generally the same as the general public.

Ok, so let's talk biology for a while. The fu***ng ass holes who try to say xx is female and xy is male and there are no exceptions are completely wrong. They are an indicator of s*x at birth, but not the end all and be all. You can be xx at birth and be male, and vice versa. And of course inters*x people are a thing. As a matter of fact something called the sry gene has more to do with our s*x at birth than chromosomes. Although it is only found on the y chromosome, mutations on the gene can cause a person to be assigned female at birth or inters*x.

Now, let's get to the part that is really going to get juicy. What do these right-wing as****es really want? They actually want two things. The first is to make trans people look bad in the eyes of the general public. They will poke and prod trans people in the hope of getting a reaction out of them. For these sick and demented people the tragedy at Tumbler Ridge is not a tragedy, but actually the sort of thing they want. They can use this to promote their evil ideology. They can, try, to use this to scare people into believing that trans people are somehow dangerous. True, this one individual was dangerous, but they are one individual. As I've said before, and will say many times again, the vast majority of trans people just want to be left alone to live their lives.

The second thing they want to do is kill us, literally. They are not going to go out with guns and shoot us down. However, as I said before they will find individual trans people and go after them until they snap and either kill themselves or we have a tragedy like Tumbler Ridge. This is their actual goal.

Having said all that, none of this should be about trans people, or the bigots. This should be about the victims in Tumbler Ridge, the families that lost loved ones and the whole community that will have to live with this for the rest of their lives. The fact that the bigots are trying to make this about trans people speaks a lot about the fact that they really don't care about dead children. Only the political points they can score.

Ok, so that wasn't quite as ranty or sweary as I thought it was going to be. I'm actually glad about that.

I am deeply saddened by the shooting that happened in Tumbler Ridge yesterday. My thoughts are with the victims, family and friends of those involved. There is absolutely no justification for such an event to occur. And I will in no way try to justify it. However, people on the right have tried to make this about a “transgender killer.” As is becoming more obvious, the shooter seems to have been transgender.

I just want to start this part off by saying that 99.9% of transgender people just want to be left alone to live their lives. Are there some trans people who aren’t good people? Of course, there are in any demographic you can think of. However, most people, including trans people, are basically good. The problem, as I see it, is that a small but vocal minority of predominantly cis people insist on making life hard for trans people. And that is tough. Some of us deal with that through self harm, some by lashing out, while some of us learn that the hate is not about us and shrug it off. I like to think that I am currently the latter, but I did go through a period of self harm.

Getting back to the point at hand. I would say that she, for whatever reason, chose to lash out. Whether it was bullying at school, her family didn’t support her, she was reading the s**t that is being spewed on the internet, or another reason, or even all of the above, we will probably never know. My point here is that these events don’t happen in a vacuum. There is a reason why this happened. It cannot be summed with the phrase “mental illness.” I will get to that in a minute. There is a larger problem going on here.

Speaking of mental illness, everyone throws it around in times like this, but what do they mean? There is a 1000+ page book called the DSM5 that has hundreds of forms of mental illness in it. So, just saying mental illness is kind of meaningless. I hate to burst some people’s bubble, but going on a shooting rampage is not “necessarily” an indication of mental illness. Is there some underlying mental health concern involved, probably, but not necessarily. The reality is that most people with mental health issues, contrary to popular belief, are not violent.

I Want to make sure that everyone who reads this understands that I am in no way trying to condone what happened. I am trying to present nuances into the situation. Trying to show that thing are not always as simple as some would make you believe.

One last thing. From my understanding she did go by she/her pronouns, so that is what I used here. Also, the fact that I never used her name, was also a deliberate choice.
