Today’s blind cricket practice session received a special boost of energy and encouragement with the visit of former international cricketer Derek Perera and Tina Perera from the Ontario Cricket Academy.
The duo spent the session watching the blind cricketers train for their upcoming competitions.
They observed the players’ dedication, teamwork, and the unique techniques that make blind cricket such a remarkable and inspiring sport, from the specially designed audio ball to the finely tuned communication between teammates on the field.
Impressed by the athletes’ commitment and passion for the game, Derek and Tina took the time to interact with the players, learning more about the challenges of the blind cricket community in Canada.
Both Derek and Tina expressed their full support for the initiative, praising the players’ resilience and skill. They went a step further by pledging their support toward the development of blind cricket in Canada, opening the door to potential mentorship, training resources, and greater visibility for the sport.
