Gender-based violence is a public safety emergency affecting every single municipality in Ontario. Yet, many local safety frameworks are treating it like an afterthought. 🚨
New research from the University of Guelph shows that while municipalities are legally required to build Community Safety and Well-Being plans, the vast majority (over 83%) fail to prioritize Gender-Based Violence as a distinct pillar.
At the same time, frontline shelters are facing unprecedented turn-away rates as housing shortages trap survivors in unsafe situations.

We cannot prevent femicide without system-wide accountability:
1️⃣ Name the crisis: Municipalities must use gender-specific language to address root causes.
2️⃣ Fund the infrastructure: Permanent operational funding for shelters and housing is essential safety infrastructure.
3️⃣ Intervene early: Local safety plans must integrate survivour support before lethal risk escalates.

There are women carrying battles that no one around them can see.

They go to work. They take care of their children. They smile when they have to. And at the end of the day, they quietly wonder if anyone could ever understand what they are going through.

Maybe you haven't reached out for help yet.
Maybe you don't have the words.
Maybe you're still trying to decide if what happened to you "counts."

It does.
And so do you.

At Lotus House Foundation, we want you to know that you don't have to have everything figured out before asking for support. You don't have to be "strong enough," and you don't have to walk this path by yourself.

Hay mujeres que están librando batallas que nadie a su alrededor puede ver.

Van al trabajo. Cuidan de sus hijos. Sonríen cuando sienten que deben hacerlo. Y al final del día, en silencio, se preguntan si alguien podría entender lo que están viviendo.

Tal vez aún no has pedido ayuda.
Tal vez no encuentras las palabras.
Tal vez todavía dudas si lo que te pasó es lo suficientemente importante para buscar apoyo.

Déjanos decirte algo: sí lo es. Y tú también importas.
