We champion the safety and well-being of children and youth based on their unique needs while strengthening families. Some families just need parenting support.

Peel Children’s Aid Society strives to ensure the safety and well-being of the community’s most vulnerable with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. Through culturally competent services, with the support of our Peel community, we help parents and caregivers build healthy families and provide a safe environment for children and youth. We believe that children and youth belong at home with their families whenever possible, and will do everything we can to keep families together. Families we work with may be facing challenges such as poverty, unemployment, ill health, domestic violence, mental health issues, or caring for a child who has serious physical, emotional or developmental difficulties. Peel CAS works with the family to determine the kind of supports they need, and links them with the appropriate community services. Together, Peel CAS and our partners work with children and families for a stronger, healthier community.

💜 It Takes a Community to Keep Children and Youth Safe

This October, as we recognize Dress Purple Day, we’re reminded that supporting children, youth and families is a shared community responsibility.

The theme “It Takes a Community” highlights the important role we all play in creating safe, supportive communities and knowing where to turn when a child, youth or family needs help. Children and youth deserve to know that trusted adults and supports in their communities are .

One way to learn more about how you can make a difference is by joining one of our upcoming FREE Duty to Report sessions at our community building, The Circle: Peel Centre for Child, Youth & Family Well-Being (25 Capston Dr., Mississauga).

You’ll learn more about:
• Peel CAS services and how we support children, youth and families
• Cultural wraparound family supports and specialized teams
• Duty to Report and your role in keeping children and youth safe
• Positive parenting tips and community resources

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to pause, listen and reflect on the truth of Canada’s history and the devastating impacts of residential schools on First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. 🧡

We remember the children who never returned home, the Survivors who carry the impacts of their experiences, and the families and communities who continue to live with the effects of intergenerational trauma.

As a child welfare organization, we have a responsibility to continue learning, to respect and honour Indigenous cultures and identities, to support keeping Indigenous children and families connected, and to work alongside Indigenous communities in meaningful and respectful ways.

Over the past few days, we had the opportunity to come together for two important gatherings at Peel CAS where over 100 staff, foster caregivers and families we support joined us for our Truth and Reconciliation Cultural Day on September 26 and Gathering on September 29.

Reconciliation is not something that happens in a single day. It is an ongoing journey that calls on all of us to keep learning, to reflect honestly on the past and to turn that learning into meaningful action.

Today, and every day, we remember. We listen. We learn. And we continue the journey toward reconciliation. 🧡

Thank you Dr. Michael Ungar for joining Peel CAS’ Research Centre this week for an inspiring presentation and discussion on Nurturing Child and Adolescent Resilience Across Cultures and Contexts: Seeing the Positives in Young People even when there are Serious Challenges.

Dr. Ungar’s thoughtful insights reminded us of the incredible strengths, potential and resilience that exist within every young person, even when they are facing significant challenges. Following the presentation, our very own Prasad Nair and Simone Brady engaged in an informative panel discussion to share their on the ground knowledge and experiences working together with families throughout our community.

At Peel CAS, we know that creating opportunities for young people to build confidence, discover their strengths, and develop resilience is an important part of helping them thrive. Through our Trailblazers Youth Program and YWHO Brampton, we provide meaningful opportunities, experiences and supports that empower children and youth to recognize their potential, build resilience and pursue their goals.

Thank you, Dr. Ungar for helping us continue the conversation about what young people need to not only overcome challenges, but to grow, thrive and live their best lives. 💙

A backpack and school supplies may seem like simple gifts, but for a child or family facing financial pressures, it can make a meaningful difference.

It's Kinship & Alternate Care Awareness Week and we are celebrating our wonderful kin caregivers. Kin help preserve and strengthen the connections to family, culture and community that shape a child or youth’s identity and sense of belonging. Their support can help families stay together and provide care when a child or youth cannot safely remain at home. We are so grateful for the relatives, extended family and community members who offer care, connection and support, this week and always. 💜
