Ever wonder why some neighbourhood streets feel cooler – or look nicer? Trees have a lot to do with it.

For residents, trees improve daily lives:
🌳 Trees provide shade and cool the air, helping reduce extreme heat in neighbourhoods.
🌳 Trees improve air quality by filtering pollutants, helping people breathe cleaner air and support physical and mental health.
🌳 Shade from trees reduces cooling needs for homes and buildings.
We can help grow Mississauga’s urban forest by requesting a new or replacement tree on City property, including streets and parks.
Mississauga is home to about 2.1 million trees. The City protects and maintains trees on City property through inspections, pruning, watering, mulching, long-term planning and tree by-laws.
As the city grows, planting new trees is essential to ensure every neighbourhood benefits from a healthy, resilient urban forest for decades to come. Every new tree helps strengthen a larger urban forest.
It’s easy to do your part.
Make use of City of Mississauga’s public tree planting program. Residents, businesses and community groups can request a free new tree or replace one that was removed on City-owned property, such as on streets and in parks. The City will then review the requests before planting.

FLOOD OUTLOOK STATEMENT: Environment Canada has issued severe thunderstorm warnings (yellow level) for all communities within the Credit River watershed. Thunderstorms are expected to begin this morning and continue into the early evening. Some communities within
the watershed, particularly in the south, may experience torrential downpours bringing more than 50 mm of rainfall. Higher water levels will result in local streams and rivers becoming dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts, bridges and dams. Keep family and pets away from watercourses.
