The Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) is a public, not-for-profit, art gallery located in the Mississauga Civic Centre, right on Celebration Square and across from Square One Shopping Centre. The AGM is proud to admit people free of charge, serve communities, and provide positive visual art experiences for all visitors. The AGM provides platforms for exhibitions, collections and experimentation in

contemporary culture with a recent focus on artists and cultural producers from Indigenous, newcomer and youth communities. Through a broad range of educational programs, artist projects and other forms of critical dialogue, the AGM seeks to transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries, foster community, and provide spaces where alternative modes of thought are supported and activated in tangible ways. The Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) would like to acknowledge and give thanks to the land on which we work. The AGM has the privilege of operating in the territory of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation and traditional homeland of the Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee nations. We are thankful to the many First Nations, Inuit, Métis and global Indigenous peoples who call this region home. Directions to the AGM, as well as transit routes and other information, can be found on the website. For more information, please contact the Art Gallery of Mississauga at (905) 896-5088 or visit artgalleryofmississauga.com.

The AGM is generously sponsored by the City of Mississauga, the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, private citizens and its membership.

Join us for a special artist talk at the AGM with Cathie Jamieson and Jill Price, artists featured in “I've Been Here Before”, followed by a freestyle workshop using foraged and found materials.

Through conversation, Jill Price and Cathie Jamieson will share their respective relationships to land, material gathering, and transformation.

Following the talk, is an “Indigenous Engineering” lab; a creative, open-ended making session using natural and found material, where participants can construct an object, tool, or sculpture!

We invite you for an evening of improvisation, relational thinking, and material storytelling.

Today, on June 21, we honour and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day.

On this day, we recognise the cultures, traditions, languages, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Turtle Island. It is a time of deep cultural and spiritual significance for many Indigenous communities.

The Art Gallery of Mississauga is a guest upon the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit. This ancient land is part of the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit and the traditional homelands of the Anishinaabe, Wendat, and Haudenosaunee nations. We stand in respect and gratitude for the Indigenous Peoples who continue to care for this land.

As we recognize this day, we remain committed to supporting and amplifying Indigenous artists and voices, and continuing our journey toward learning and meaningful reconciliation.

Some highlights from our recent Beaded Pin Workshop at AGM

In celebration of Indigenous Peoples Day, participants joined Métis multimedia artist and ceramist Sabrina Boyer to explore the art of beadwork and create their own beaded pins. Thank you to everyone who spent the afternoon creating, connecting, and learning with us.

Now on view: I’ve Been Here Before

Featuring works by Cathie Jamieson and Jill Price, this exhibition brings together two artists whose practices are rooted in care for the land, environmental responsibility, and mindful engagement with the materials that surround us.

Through installations created from responsibly gathered natural materials and reclaimed shoreline debris, Jamieson and Price invite us to reflect on our relationship with the earth and the impact of our everyday actions. Their work reminds us that the living systems that sustain us are not passive resources, but active relations deserving of care, respect, and reciprocity.

Curated by AGM Senior Curator Shannon Anderson.

I’ve Been Here Before is on view at the Art Gallery of Mississauga until July 19, 2026.

Admission is always free.
