Chonin Kan was originally founded by Sensei David, who received his training under Sensei Oscar Landry. It is currently run under the direction of Josh Stewart, who received his Nidan in Shotokan / Chito Ryu under Sensei David, and his Shodan and Shidoin (entry-level instructor's license) under Sensei Patrick McCarthy (Koryu Uchinadi). Chonin Kan endorses the values of Japanese budo, focusing heav

Our Nyumon curriculum includes tsuki (striking techniques), keri (kicks), uke (blocks), classical kata (forms), dachi (stances), taisabaki (body movement), ukemi (breakfalls), and gyaku-waza (escapes from being grabbed). At more advanced levels, we incorporate bunkai (application of kata), kansetsu (joint locks), nage (throws), shime (choking/strangulation techniques), ne-waza (groundwork), and grappling. Chonin Kan operates through the City of Mississauga, at the Erin Meadows, Cawthra, and River Grove Community Centres.
