ERDO (Emergency Relief & Development Overseas)

ERDO (Emergency Relief & Development Overseas) Working with communities to end hunger
and poverty for 40 years. Nous travaillons avec les communautés pour mettre fin à la faim et à la pauvreté depuis 40 ans.

Child sponsorship is when one sponsor is connected with one child. For $41 a month, the child is supported with his or her basic needs such as clean water, nutritious food, sanitation, medical treatments and health care, vaccines, schooling, job training, etc. Over 8,000 are currently sponsored and 1,800+ are waiting for sponsors. Food assistance is an area where we partner with the Canadian Foodg

rains Bank. Major annual food aid projects ensure that hundreds of thousands of people receive life-saving food and also options to help communities provide food for themselves. Crisis Response is when ERDO reaches out to those affected by natural disasters, political conflict and chronic poverty. Our response would involve emergency aid, disaster recovery and training that enables people to be better prepared for future crises. As we work with communities in crisis we also offer spiritual and emotional support. Community Development is when we come alongside communities to build on their strengths and to assist them with sustainable solutions that respect their context and culture. Mutual transformation is a valued outcome. Clean water, microfinance for entrepreneurs and sustainable agricultural practices can make the difference in helping people to break the cycle of poverty and poor health.

“At a time when many Western countries are reducing their international aid commitments, we find ourselves in a moment where needs are growing, but available resources are not keeping pace.
..And in many ways, this is where the Church is at its best — stepping in with faithful compassion and a long-term commitment to care and justice that isn’t dependent on shifting government policies or funding cycles.

We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and walking alongside and caring for those in need is how we demonstrate Christ’s love.”

CEO Daniel Lepojarvi shares why we continue to work even in the face of government cuts.

When Hurricane Melissa swept through Jamaica, Rory watched as the storm destroyed the crops he had worked so hard to grow.

For farmers like Rory, a harvest is more than food. It's how they provide for their families, pay for their children's education, and build a future. In a matter of hours, much of that was lost.

But Rory didn't give up.

With support from ERDO and our local partners, farmers and families are beginning to rebuild. Seeds, farming supplies, and practical resources are helping people like Rory plant again and look toward the future with hope.

This Father's Day, you can honour a father, grandfather, mentor, or someone who has made a difference in your life by helping fathers and families in Jamaica recover from the hurricane's devastation.

Your gift today helps restore livelihoods, strengthen communities, and remind families that they are not facing this journey alone.

This Father's Day, you can honour a father, grandfather, mentor or someone who has made a difference in your life by helping fathers in Jamaica rebuild after Hurricane Melissa.

Many families lost homes, livelihoods and the tools they depend on to provide for their children. Today, fathers are working hard to rebuild what the storm took away.
Your support can help provide:

💙Fishing equipment for family fishermen
🌱Seeds to farmers
🏠 Roofing materials to repair family homes

A gift made in honour of a special person in your life can help another father care for the people who depend on him.

We’re celebrating graduates and students from ERDO’s ChildCARE Plus program who are thriving thanks to the faithful support of sponsors! 🎓

Zanele from South Africa is one of those students whose life has been deeply impacted through ChildCARE Plus sponsorship. After losing her parents at a young age, she and her sisters were left to care for themselves until ChildCARE Plus, through a local church partner, stepped in to support them.

Today, Zanele has graduated and is working as a pharmacist’s assistant. She has been accepted into university, where she will study law while continuing to work.

Reflecting on her journey, she shared:

“CCP changed my life in ways I never thought possible. Their unwavering support from the age of 10 empowered me to pursue my dreams with confidence. Beyond financial assistance, your guidance and belief in me have motivated me. I am highly grateful for your support.”

Stories like Zanele’s are a powerful reminder that sponsorship can help change the trajectory of a child’s life, opening doors to education, opportunity and hope for the future.

After severe flooding in Pakistan, Mithul and his family lost everything.

With no money to rebuild, they were forced to live in a makeshift tent exposed to extreme heat, cold and constant uncertainty. For his family of nine children, daily life became a struggle for safety, privacy and dignity.

But their story didn’t end there.

Through the work of ERDO's local partner, Mithul’s family received a disaster-resilient home elevated 4 feet above ground level to protect against future floods. The new home includes a door and two windows to regulate temperature, a veranda, where the family can store their belongings, and a proper washroom, ensuring dignity, privacy and improved hygiene.

"We were hopeless, but now we have a home where my family feels safe. I can focus on earning for my children’s future without worrying about their shelter. I hope more families like mine receive the same support to live with dignity and security," says Mithul.

With a safe and secure home, Mithul's family can move forward and plan for the future instead of surviving each day.

Behind every thriving child is someone who loves, sacrifices and keeps showing up day after day.

Today, on the Global Day of Parents, we celebrate parents and caregivers around the world who work tirelessly to care for their children, often in the midst of incredible challenges.

In many communities where ERDO works, families face drought, food insecurity, conflict and limited access to clean water or healthcare. Yet parents continue to do everything they can to build a better future for their children.

Through programs focused on food security, clean water, education, healthcare and livelihoods, ERDO partners with communities to help strengthen families and create lasting hope.

Today, we honour the resilience, love and dedication of parents everywhere.

At ERDO, our approach focuses on partnering with local churches and community-based organizations. Why? Churches are made up of people who are already part of the community. They understand the culture, the relationships and the realities on the ground in a way that outsiders often can’t.

Churches were there before the crisis. And they’ll still be there long after it passes. They know where the need is the greatest and how to best deliver help. This makes churches one of the best local partners.

It means we can respond faster in emergencies. It means stronger trust within the community and it creates a foundation for long-term, sustainable change. Churches also extend the love of God and are often able to care for people's spiritual needs, praying for people and ministering to their hearts.

In practice, this means that ERDO’s humanitarian responses are part of an ongoing relationship — one that continues through recovery, development and, ultimately, transformation.

We are thrilled to share that the new Surgical Theatre at Namoruputh Health Centre in Kenya is now officially open and operational!

Recently, the first surgeries were performed in the new theatre and several patients received the gift of restored sight.

This a life-changing medical facility will help safe, accessible medical care for years to come.

Previously, many patients had to travel or walk upwards of 85 kilometres to access surgical care. Now, families in the region can receive treatment much closer to home.

This milestone has been made possible through the faithful support of donors over many years through initiatives like the Ride To Thrive Bikeathon. Every contribution helped make this vision a reality.

Thank you for helping bring hope, healing and healthcare closer to vulnerable communities in Kenya!
