Sovietization of History and Memory in Ukraine (1920s-1930s) by Dr. Oksana Klymenko

This talk examines the formation of Soviet projects promoting “the correct” Soviet-endorsed version of Ukrainian history during the interwar period. The study reveals the narratological techniques and tools used in the memoirs of workers, which were intended to serve as evidence to validate the accuracy of Soviet “historical narratives”.

“Ukrainian bookshelves” have been supplemented with Mykhailo Hrushevsky's History of Ukraine-Rus' as part of Olena Zelenska's project.

On February 21, the English translation of ten-volume Mykhailo Hrushevsky's History of Ukraine-Rus'. was presented in Sofia Kyivska, Kyiv, Ukraine.

The presentation and transfer of the publication was carried out with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine.

The English translation and publication was carried out by the Peter Jacyk Centre for Ukrainian Historical Research at the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Alberta.

Mrs. Zelenska thanked the Embassy of Canada to Ukraine and the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Alberta for the presented ten-volume English-language "History of Ukraine-Rus" by Mykhailo Hrushevsky.

Ten of his sets will occupy a prominent place on Ukrainian bookshelves around the world. And therefore, they will defend both our authentic history and a free future.

The Petro Jacyk Program for the Study of Ukraine at the Centre for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (CERES), Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, University of Toronto is accepting applications for the Petro Jacyk Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Ukrainian Politics, Culture, and Society for the 2024-2025 academic year. The objective of the Post-Doctoral Fellowship is to support annually one of the most promising junior scholars studying contemporary Ukraine and thereby to advance academic understanding of Ukrainian politics, culture, and society.
