PRO ACHIEVE 2026 – Day 3

Day 3 of PRO ACHIEVE 2026 begins with the Management Accounting module. Dr. Taslima Nasreen is leading today’s session as participants explore key management accounting concepts and practical applications.

Students are looking forward to another engaging and productive day of learning. Strong management accounting knowledge helps accounting practitioners better support small and medium-sized businesses through effective planning, decision-making, performance measurement, and strategic growth.

RPA Canada was proud to speak with policymakers, industry leaders, and professionals during Advocacy Day 2026 at Queen’s Park, focusing on the important role Professional Accountants play in supporting Ontario’s small business economy.

Through a series of interviews conducted during the Advocacy Luncheon, Hon. Nina Tangri MPP (PC) and Associate Minister of Small Businesses; Terence Kernaghan, MPP (NDP) and Shadow Minister for Small Business; Prof. William X.Wei, PhD, RPA; Prof. Dr. Taslima Nasreen, PhD, RPA; Sheref Sabawy, MPP ; Bobbi Ann Brady, MPP (Independent); Aislinn Clancy, MPP (Green) & Zubair Choudhry RPA, APA , President & CEO of RPA Canada shared insights on reducing barriers for accounting professionals, supporting small businesses, reducing red tape, and strengthening the future of the accounting profession in Ontario.

Since 1978, the Society of Professional Accountants of Canada has supported practitioners who provide affordable, accessible, and reliable accounting services to small and medium-sized enterprises across the province. Today’s conversations reinforced the importance of recognizing accountants as trusted advisors, community partners, and economic enablers helping businesses grow and succeed.

Zubair Choudhry, RPA, APA , President & CEO of RPA Canada, had the privilege of engaging with Minister Stephen Crawford and James Balsillie, former Chair and Co CEO of Research In Motion (Now “BlackBerry”), during a Fireside Chat held at Balsillie School of International Affairs.

The panel brought together distinguished leaders for an in depth discussion on the theme “Unlocking Opportunity: How Ontario Businesses Can Thrive Under the Buy Ontario Act.” Minister Crawford outlined how the Act is designed to strengthen local procurement, expand opportunities for Ontario based firms, and support long term economic competitiveness.

The event fostered a dynamic environment where politicians, senior bureaucrats, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and business leaders exchanged ideas on Ontario’s economic future, innovation, procurement pathways, and technology driven growth.

James Balsillie, one of Canada’s most influential business leaders and philanthropists is widely recognized for his leadership at Research In Motion (BlackBerry), which reached nearly US$19.9 billion in annual sales at its peak in 2011.

During the discussion, Zubair Choudhry highlighted the accelerating impact of Artificial Intelligence on accounting, taxation, and advisory services, emphasizing the need for technology focused, future ready accountants in Canada’s evolving economy. He also extended an invitation to Mr. Balsillie to serve as a keynote speaker at a future RPA Canada event to inspire RPA members and practitioners to embrace innovation, AI adoption, and technology leadership.

RPA Canada hosted the successful Small Business Professional Accountant Advocacy Luncheon at Queen’s Park, bringing together lawmakers, policymakers, professional accountants, industry leaders, and academics to discuss the future of SME accounting services, accountability, workforce development, and economic growth in Ontario.

The event highlighted the critical role professional accountants play in supporting Ontario’s small businesses and strengthening the economy.

Speakers included:

* Zubair Choudhry, RPA, APA , President & CEO of RPA Canada
* Lucille Collardlard, MPP representing the Liberal Party of Ontario
* Terence Kernaghan, MPP representing the Ontario NDP
* Aislinn Clancy, MPP representing the Green Party of Ontario
* Nina Tangri, MPP and Associate Minister of Small Business representing the PC Party of Ontario.

The event concluded with remarks from Prof. William Wei, who thanked all politicians, policymakers, RPA Canada Board Members, volunteers, and guests for their participation and support.

We were also honoured by the attendance of Premier Doug Ford, several cabinet ministers, MPPs, and distinguished leaders from industry and academia.

Together, we continue advancing the voice of professional accountants and supporting the growth and success of Ontario’s small business community.
