This year’s 12th Annual Volta Luso Charities, presented by LIUNA Local 183, emphasized the power of our community, highlighting their generosity and strength. We welcomed over 1,000 participants at both our Mississauga and Hamilton locations, all in support of individuals living with disabilities and their families!
With the great support we received this year, we raised over $335,000 (with donations still coming in!). These funds support our ongoing day programs, and the building of our 24/7 supportive housing for those adults with disabilities.
In Mississauga, we were honoured to be joined once again by Mike Trauner - Veteran & Para-Athlete, along with his wife, Leah, and his team of para-athletes. Mike led our 80 km cyclists and had the honour of cutting the first ribbon of Volta, inspiring everyone with his powerful example of resilience, perseverance, and generosity.
In Hamilton, the focus was on bringing the community together. Riders, volunteers, and supporters enjoyed a fun-filled day, creating lasting memories and continuing the momentum of the Volta tour.
Throughout the day, the positive energy was undeniable, and people left Volta with a deep sense of fulfillment. Supporting a meaningful cause has a way of uplifting everyone involved, and your support helps uplift the lives of our participants and their families every day.
We sincerely thank everyone that made the Luso Volta possible! To every donor, sponsor, participant, volunteer, staff member, entertainer, and community partner - THANK YOU! We couldn't have done it without you. Special thanks to our venue hosts, the Portuguese Cultural Centre of Mississauga and LIUNA Station, and their teams. This year's walk & cycle may be over, but Volta is not done yet! The Donate button on our Volta website remains open until September 15th. It's not too late to give: www.lusovolta.ca
Stay tuned, we will be uploading even more Volta photos in the coming days!
From all of us at Luso, on behalf of the participants and families we support, THANK YOU for being part of this unforgettable event and for making a real difference in the lives of individuals living with disabilities.
Together, we are moving forward and building a brighter future!
