Luso Canadian Charitable Society is a non profit charitable organization as of August 3, 2003. We provide support services to adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities allowing much needed temporary relief for families/caregivers while providing a safe, nurturing environment and a sense of well-being. Since our organization does not receive any ongoing government funding, we heavily r

ely on the generosity of our community for support to continue fulfilling our commitment of providing quality programs and services to all persons with disabilities.

We are very grateful to 100 Women Who Care Mississauga for selecting Luso Canadian Charitable Foundation as the recipient of their June Giving Circle donation. Last week, representatives from Luso proudly accepted a generous $16,000 contribution that will help support participants from our Peel Support Centre in accessing overnight respite services at our Toronto Respite Program.

These funds will help offset program and transportation costs, creating meaningful opportunities for adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities while providing caregivers with valuable time to rest, recharge, and find peace of mind.

On behalf of our participants, families, caregivers, staff, and volunteers, thank you to the members of 100 Women Who Care Mississauga for believing in our mission and making a positive impact in our community.

Luso has incredible community supporters! Last Saturday, Filipe Ferreira with Family and Friends organized a garage sale for the second consecutive weekend, raising a total of $4,200 with all proceeds directly supporting Luso's programs for individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities.

Thanks to the generosity of Gary Fraga, a raffle for four TFC tickets was held in conjunction with the garage sales, raising additional funds for Luso and our participants!

Thank you to Gary Fraga, the Ferreira family & everyone who helped make this possible! We are immensely grateful for the commitment of our community in support of Luso’s mission to create a more inclusive and accessible future for all.

Luso's Annual Garage Sale is back for Round 2 this Saturday, May 30 from 9am-2pm!

Due to the inclement weather last weekend, our amazing supporter, FFilipe Ferreira, along with his family and friends will be having another garage sale this weekend at 21 Bartlett Ave in Toronto, near Bloor & Dufferin. Come out to find some new treasures and support Luso programs.

As we recognize National Accessibility Week, Luso extends its heartfelt gratitude to Woodbridge GTA ClimateCare for their generous donation in support of Luso programs, presented today at Luso’s Peel Centre.

We were pleased to welcome Steve Crozier from Woodbridge GTA Climate Care, who visited the Centre to see our programs in action, meet our participants, and learn more about how significant the impact of an accessible, inclusive, and supportive community can be for those with disabilities.

Their generosity helps us continue creating meaningful opportunities and accessible programs for the individuals we support every day.

Thank you to Pink Flamingo Landscaping & Design for their beautiful summer planters at Luso Peel, helping us to welcome in the season! For many years, Pink Flamingo has been kind enough to use their gardening skills and creativity to help make Luso look as bright and welcoming on the outside as it is inside our doors. Congratulations to Catarina Correia for winning the raffle for 4 tickets to see Toronto FC vs. Chicago Fire! Thank you to everyone who supported Luso by purchasing a ticket, to Gary Fraga for donating this amazing prize, and of course, huge thanks to the Filipe Ferreira and the Ferreira family for organizing this. We are so grateful and proud to have such an incredible community standing with us.

Due to a very wet forecast, Luso’s Annual Garage Sale is being postponed to Sunday, May 24th! Visit Filipe Ferreira& family at 34 Cowley Ave in Etobicoke from 8am-2pm to shop for a great deal or purchase raffle tickets for the opportunity to to see TFC at BMO Field on September 5th! It’s sure to be fantastic day, with all funds raised going to support Luso’s programs.

This weekend, May 23 & 24, you can find Luso at Carassauga Festival! Luso will be joining the Canada Pavilion at Paramount Fine Foods Centre in Rink 2 to share more about the programs and services we offer. We will also have a wonderful selection of art and handmade items created by our participants available, with all proceeds going to our Centres.

The Festival runs from 12-11pm on Saturday and 12-7pm on Sunday. We invite you to come by our table to learn more about all Luso has to offer. We look forward to connecting with you!

Luso had the honour of welcoming the newly appointed Ambassador of Portugal to Canada, Dr. Bernardo Fernandes Homem de Lucena and the Consul-General of Portugal to Toronto Dra. Ana Luísa Riquito at our Toronto Centre on Friday, May 15th.

Our distinguished guests were given a tour of the Centre, where they enthusiastically engaged with participants, staff, and Board members to learn more about Luso’s mission, history, and the work we do in support of individuals with developmental disabilities. We were pleased to present Ambassador Lucena with an original piece of art by Luso participant, Steven Morais, as a souvenir of his visit. We thank Ambassador Lucena for his thoughtful and inspiring words entered into Luso's guestbook.

We are grateful for the incredible representatives of Portugal in Canada, Dr. Lucena & Dra. Riquito, for their support of individuals with disabilities and for taking time during the Ambassador's first visit to Toronto, to join us at Luso.

As always, there’s lots of fun happening at Luso Peel! Last week, the Purse Project popped by to donate activity bags that included items like colouring books & I sensory toys for our participants to take home.

Visual Arts Mississauga also came in to host a painting workshop in which participants created a beautiful mural that is now decorating the foyer of the Centre.

Thank you to the Purse Project and VVisual Arts Mississaugafor taking the time to join us in bringing joy & creativity to Luso participants! We are immensely grateful to have so many incredible partners working with us to uplift and inspire our community.
We wish everyone a great long weekend, we'll see you back at our Centres on Tuesday!
