“Canada can be both welcoming... and challenging.”

Moving to a new country isn’t just about crossing borders; it’s about rebuilding identity, finding community, and discovering where you belong.

In this powerful conversation, Salma Hussain reflects on immigrating to Canada as a teenager, the realities newcomers face, and how storytelling became one of her greatest sources of strength.

A conversation every newcomer and every Canadian should hear.

DBNC was excited and honored to be part of the Kay Morris Foundation's
Backpacks, Buns, and Burgers BBQ and Tools 2 Learn initiative. It was wonderful to come together as a community to support local students and families as they prepare for a successful school year. 🎒📚

We are also proud to highlight that DBNC’s SWIS (Settlement Workers in Schools) program is here in the community to support newcomers to Canada as they navigate their settlement journey. From connecting families with community resources and services to helping newcomer students and parents feel welcomed, informed, and supported, SWIS plays an important role in helping families build strong foundations in their new home.

✍️✨Today, we celebrate the art of beautiful lettering, the power of the written word, and the timeless tradition of putting pen to paper. 🖋️📜

In a world of screens and instant messages, calligraphy reminds us to slow down, be intentional, and appreciate the beauty in every stroke.

🌎 From traditional scripts passed down through generations to modern lettering styles, handwriting connects us across cultures, communities, and generations.

Today, let’s celebrate the artists, learners, and enthusiasts keeping this beautiful tradition alive. 💚

Pick up a pen. Write something by hand. Create something beautiful.

What’s your favorite thing to write by hand? ✨

🌟Today, we celebrate the dreamers, doers, leaders, and changemakers who are shaping our communities and inspiring a brighter future. 💚

Young people bring fresh ideas, courage, creativity, and passion to the world around them — and their voices matter today, not just tomorrow.

Let’s continue to listen to, support, empower, and create opportunities for youth to turn their ideas into action. 🌱✨

Here’s to the young people who dream big, challenge the status quo, lift others up, and make a difference every day!

💫 Keep dreaming. Keep doing. Keep changing the world.
