25 years of light, community and giving back.

The Trillium Diwali Gala, Canada's first and largest Diwali gala, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year!

It began in 2002 with a few hundred guests and an idea from Dr. Vir Sennik, an orthopaedic surgeon at Trillium Health Partners. Last year more than 1,100 people filled the ballroom.

Co-chair Sapna Mehta has been part of it for 15 years: "Everybody here is like a family."

Fellow Co-chair and longtime donor Nishan Minhas gives back because of the compassionate care both of his parents received. "Trillium [Health Partners] has always come through for me."

This year, the goal is to raise more than $1.4 million to help build The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital, the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children, and expanded care at the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre.

All paediatric care that requires a hospital stay at Trillium Health Partners is located at Credit Valley Hospital. Emergency care for children remains available at Credit Valley Hospital and Mississauga Hospital.

If a child at Mississauga Hospital needs emergency assessment by a paediatrician or admission to the hospital, our teams will arrange a safe transfer to Credit Valley Hospital.

Our emergency departments are always here to provide high-quality care for children and families.

“The medicine I’m giving you, it’s just like I would treat my dad.”

That’s what Dr. Andrew Feifer told Gurcharan as he began treatment for Stage 4 prostate cancer.

In 2024, a routine blood test showed Gurcharan had higher-than-normal levels of PSA – a protein produced by the prostate.

He sought further testing from Dr. Andrew Feifer, a leading urologic oncologist at Trillium Health Partners’ Carlo Fidani Regional Cancer Centre.

The diagnosis: prostate cancer that had spread beyond the prostate gland.

Dr. Feifer prescribed two hormone therapies – one to lower testosterone, the other to block hormonal impact on the cells – to stop the cancer’s growth and spread. One year into treatment, Gurcharan’s PSA levels have dropped “to nothing,” and he hasn’t required surgery.

To thank Dr. Feifer and his team, Gurcharan and his family donated to Trillium Health Partners Foundation, so the next patient can benefit from the same exceptional care.

“Even small donations add up and allow us to advance the necessary research and new technology needed to provide this critical care for our patients.” – Dr. Feifer.

A ballroom transformed seemingly overnight into a world of colour, light, and celebration — this year, for the 25th anniversary of The Trillium Diwali Gala on October 23, 2026, at Pearson Convention Center.

But what does it take to make that transformation happen?

We are going behind the scenes with Paras Mehta, our lead event designer, and Sarah Renton, manager of art direction at Trillium Health Partners Foundation, as they look back at memorable designs from over the years and give us a glimpse of how this year's celebration is coming together.
