This May, we are honouring those who leave a lasting legacy of care.
Multiple generations of the Middleton family have undergone care at Trillium Health Partners.
“I think every unit was used by my parents over the years, so it became quite a familiar place for us to be,” explains Linda Middleton. “They wouldn’t have gone anywhere else. I remember once, my dad had a heart attack. Their immediate go-to was – we’ll go to Credit Valley [Hospital] and get answers. They just had this huge, huge comfort and trust.”
Linda also delivered her fourth baby at Credit Valley Hospital, and her son Jason received life-saving spinal surgery there when he was only 19.
Dr. Dana Wilson was one of two or three surgeons in the Greater Toronto Area doing spinal surgery in 2004 and performed Jason’s surgery. “[It] prevented me from dying,” Jason gratefully says. “It just allowed me to live a normal life now without too many restrictions.”
When Eva Middleton – Linda’s mother and Jason’s grandmother – passed away and the family read her will, they found donations to a list of charities. And Trillium Health Partners Foundation was the single largest gift of all.
"It goes to show how much [my grandparents] valued the health care they received," says Jason. "And it wasn't just about my grandparents. It was about me too."
The Estate of Eva Middleton ensures there will be more stories like Jason’s.
Says Linda of her parents’ donation, “They would be very happy to be going down the hospital donor wall and to see their name on the [legacy giving] plaque.”
Do you have a story of care at Trillium Health Partners? This Legacy Month, we invite you to consider how a gift in your will could help the next family, like the Middletons.
