If you are someone who is looking to donate or volunteer to give back to the community, you should chose the compas for these reasons:
- We have a unique way that lets the users shop for what they need, rather than just being given a box full of food that they don't want or need.
- We ave many programs that help people in need get back on their feet.
- Also, we don't just have financial and food aid, we also have spiritual and mental aid. Many only help by donating food,but often the people in need also have mental problems, and we do a great job of helping them at The Compass.

If you want to help even more you can come in and volunteer yourself! You will have to be taught by one of our veteran workers how to sort and arrange, but there is always room for more helpers.

One obstacle faced by The Compass is when people who aren't eligible to receive food (they can buy it themselves) persist to try and get free food. Usually it takes some explaining about how others might need it more than them, but sometimes that's not enough. If it continues for long enough we ban them from the premises.

Unlike other charities, we don't get money from the government. We mostly get it from drives in schools and from local churches. The Mississauga food bank does supply us with food, but we also get it from local food drives and, again, churches.

There have been an issue of unemployment for a long time in Canada (and everywhere else) and there are many without jobs and in need of aid. We address this problem by supplying food for them while they're in need of money and helping with our job search program.

The market is a very important part of The Compass, something that makes it a very unique to other food banks. We stock the market with large varieties of food and necessities that the users can pick from as they please. This allows them to eat or use everything they get and hopefully enjoy it.

We run a number of different programs to help people get back on their feet, such as tax preparation, help in finding relevant social assistance programs. Although those are good we spend most of our time putting on breakfast, lunch and dinner programs, and helping people buy food that they need.
